After they hobbled Olivia to bed and she had burned the documentation, Mama Wairimu sat on their living room feeling satisfied. She almost felt proud of what she had accomplished. She had saved her daughter from motherhood, she had saved her from shame and embarrassment.
She went to the kitchen with a key. It had two fridges. One was for the entire family and everyone knew that and the other one was mummy's. She removed a bottle of sparkling wine and poured herself a glass and went to the TV room and put her feet up to watch some sleazy reality TV show.
Her glass was empty after a minute and she got up again and went back to her fridge opened it and poured another glass then decided to carry the whole bottle with her to the TV room.
She took sips and groaned after remembering the call she had made to Mzee Ajabu asking him if he was eating supper and instead telling her that he was on a business trip to Dubai for a week.
"It was abrupt, we're thinking of opening another branch here." He said. Of course he did not need to explain himself to her but he felt he had to do it, if not for his wife for his subconscious.
Mama Wairimu emptied the glass and poured herself another one and wondered if she should call Fred and tell him the plans she had for him.
Pursuing his music was okay, he had no qualms with it but he needed to realize that he was destined for bigger things than pressing a bunch of black and white blocks on a table. He was destined to run his fathers company.
She wondered how she would entice him. He knew he smoked weed but she also knew he had dreams of grandeur. That was his Achilles and ultimately her window.
By the time she was done with these thoughts the bottle of sparkling wine was empty. She didn't bother getting up to go to the bedroom. She leaned on the couch and felt the room spinning and then she passed out.
