Mzee Ajabu was in high spirits, everything was coming together. He looked at his daughter seated at her desk working and she felt warm. It was only a matter of time before everything fell into place. He got up from his seat and keyed in the digits to his safe. He had been putting it off for a while but he was going to refresh his will today.
He sat down with a pen. He would retire at the age of seventy five he had decided. He felt he had done enough for the company and it now needed some new energy, kids who were born with social media accounts.
He thought of his son Fred. He was a bit of a renegade but that only spoke to the man he would become. He leaned into his will and penciled him in as his successor, with all the powers that came with that office, of course he would be there to guide him as well as Kitana. And if she continued the way she was, Wairimu would be there working beside her brother.
He looked at the name of his last born daughter, Olivia and felt his stomach flatter with pride. She was his flower and he didn't think twice to pencil her in as the head of Human Resource. She would do a phenomenal job he knew. She had a human touch about her that he had not seen with a lot of people.
Wairimu was a star but she could be derailed by the barrage of feminism and going against the grain. If it was a few years back her place would be in the kitchen. Mzee Ajabu tried to imagine her with an apron and he smiled. He penciled her in as the COO. With a caveat of-course of passing her training. He didn't know why he gave her a tougher time than the rest, perhaps because she was the first born. The torch bearer.
He looked at his wife's name. She had done well by him and being generous was the least that she could do. He left her their holiday home in Diani, jewelry worth anywhere from ten to twenty million shillings and five million cash. She would not say she wasn't taken care of.
He got to the final part which was the most crucial. The board of directors. The people who would be responsible for appointing the heads of the organization.
He thought of his tech lead and his current COO. They were all good eggs. But they did not have his blood flowing in their veins. He penciled His name. His two daughters and his son as the directors. In the event that he passed away. His vote would stand in favor of his son as CEO. He did not know it by then but with a stroke of a pen he had condemned himself to an early grave.
