Her desk was milk white, she shared it with other Account Managers but she did not mind. What she loved more than her desk was her spanking new MacBook Air. She looked at it and she felt grateful that she had it even though it meant some supplier somewhere might not have been paid on time. She was giddy. New role. New life. No more newspapers.

The Tech Lead was the first one to come around and congratulate her, followed by the Creative Director, Winfred and then the COO, Kitana. They thought it a good gesture but they did not know that by coming around her desk to congratulate her, they were planting seeds of unnecessary rumours.

Price Farm, the account she was handling was involved in animal feed: poultry, pigs and dairy and now it was her job to make it stand out. The debriefing by Rebecca was short and precise. After, she met her team. A dark chap, with a faded haircut, glasses and an ever moving mouth. He went by the name John and the title Content Creator. Then there was Judy and Jane. They both looked bored as if they would have preferred to be anywhere in the world at the moment than there. They were Community Managers. Making sure comments on social pages were answered and leads followed.

Wairimu did not say much to her team, simple niceties and exchange of names. After she thought it weird that her squad names had a rhyme. John, Judy and Jane. It wasn't all that drab after all. She would have to rehearse those names before she confused them on all of them.

Her first client meeting was scheduled in the afternoon. A short, tomboyish lady and a yellow guy who was a bit full of himself. She handled them with grace even though they owed them a few millions and were part of the reason Ajabu Digital was having liquidity issues.

She got back to the office exhausted, ready to call it a day when she heard the whisper. It was behind a glass door that was slightly open. She could not tell if it was Rebecca, John, Judy or Jane or some other person unless she budged in. "She's slept with all the bosses, that's why she has moved from receptionist to Manager in the blink of an eye." She felt nauseous. Her transition to Account Manager was now complete with a welcome mat and cookies with a bow on top.
