Wairimu got home upbeat. It was crazy, life, wasn't it? She just had a row with her dad a few months ago and she was now putting everything on the line to get his company out of the red.
The uber stopped and she got out. She was tinkering with the idea of buying a small car, a Toyota Auris or a Nissan Tiida but she wanted to consult her father first.
It was also something weird, she thought. His word on her affairs had meant the least to her but here she was squirming for her advice. She thought about him for a minute and realised she had not seen him in quite a while. She made a mental note to give him a call after she was settled.
She paid the Uber driver and got out of the car. Their gate was opened and their guard was nowhere to be seen which was peculiar. She closed it and looked around for the guard, that's when she saw the two bodies lying on the grass. She rushed and stood frazzled for an entire minute after seeing her dad and sister looking lifeless on the grass.
"What happened? What happened?" She screamed, tears trickling down her cheeks. Mzee Ajabu was unconscious, she thought he was dead. Olivia was still convulsing. The open wound where she had cut herself still spilling blood. Her eyes had rolled up all the way to her eyelids so that you saw only the whites of her eyes. She looked pale as death.
She started by touching the pulse of her dad it was still beating; softly, weakly. She then removed her phone from her pocket and it slipped and fell from nervousness. She picked it up and dialed their family doctor.
"Come quickly, it's an emergency," she said amid tears and hiccups without offering context.
"Your dad told me he was on the way," he barked
"He can't make it, he's unconscious."
"I will be there in twenty," the doc said and the line went dead.
Wairimu did not have twenty minutes. She called a motorbike. Mzee Ajabu and Olivia were sandwiched between her and the driver and in seven minutes they were at the hospital. The family doctor had not even gotten out of his office yet.
