I wrapped the towel around my body, stepping out of the tub. Pulling my wet hair loose i patted it with the brown micro fibre towel. I hummed an oldie while applying some products to my hair before drying it with my yellow sony hair dryer diffuser. Its been a week since i promised Ashton dinner and i knew somewhere deep down that he was waiting for my call. I wanted to get out the way and out of my mind.
I let the towel hugging my body fall to the gray rug. I wore a purple solid high neck bodycon dress suitable for the drizzling weather.
I dabbed the makeup brush on my cheek one last time checking my reflection on the vanity mirror in front of me.
"Am i too dressy?" I frowned at my reflection. I shook my head, giving myself a reassuring smile, i picked up my purse and jacket."I wonder what Giana would say if she saw me now?"
I thought to myself. I made a turn into the freeway turning up the volume to the song that played, i drove past the stream of head lights that beautified the dark night.
Animals by super junior filled the car with a lively mood.My stuart weitzman kissed the wet ground when i stepped out of the car. The chill breeze washed away the warmth my body exploited. Hugging myself i locked the car, briskly walking into the restaurant.
I was welcomed by the warm dim light. Taking of my jacket i gave to the waiteress that led me to Ashton.
"Hey". I smiled.
He rounded the table to pull out my chair for me.
"Thank you". I mumured not expecting such gesture.
"You look gorgeous", he said reseating himself.
I rolled my eyes.
"I wasn't expecting this place to be this fancy". I looked around permitting my senses to gradually digested the cozy elegance of the restaurant. The feeling made me feel comfortable and safe for some reason.
"I knew you would love it. Its a family business..been in business for quite awhile and also very hard to make a reservation." he leaned forward. "Plus the food here is great", he whispered.
I looked him in the eyes.
"I haven't had vietnamese food before".
Ashton chuckled a bit.The waiteress brought the menu.
"Here you go ma'am". The waiteress said. She looked like she was in her late twenties, her soft asian feature made her the cutest innocent looking lady i have seen.
She smiled at me. "You look so pretty ma'am". She complimented.
"Wow...thank you. You look awesome yourself."
I loved how easy going she was. Making some talks with a client or customer was always a good recommended inclusion in business, no wonder the business was going so well.
"So we have something special from one of our chefs today..Have you been here before?"
"No she hasn't".
"Okay". she nodded before she continued. "We have our signature Bun Cha Hanoi on the menu today by one of our best chef".
"Hmm..sounds great." I turned to Ashton. "Since am buying..what do you want??"
Ashton gave me a weird glance before replying to the waitress.
"I would have the Bun cha".
Pulling out a small electronic tablet and pen, she scribbled something on the screen.
"I would love that too", i said.
"Any appetizers, drinks...you can order dessert after your meal".When she left, i sipped some water.
"What was that about?"
"What?" Ashton asked.
"Nevermind".
"Tell me something.." Ashton crossed his hands on the table. " Did you really mean it when you said you were in your forties?"
"Yes..why?" I quirked a brow.
"You look way younger".
"Here it goes again...."
"You can think what ever you want Ashton". Giving up on the conversation, i changed the topic.
"What made you become a cop?"
He leaned back, resting his back on his chair. His lanky body modelled the denim jacket he wore-- His hair seemed to have grown longer compare to the last time i saw him.
"Well..i wanted to, my father was a rough man who was always in the face of the law..i decided to be the opposite of that".
"Wow..how does the whole process work?"
He laughed deeply, his shoulder quaked-- his eyes slightly closed.
"You want me to tell you that over dinner?"
I shrugged my shoulder.
"Well.."
The waitress returned with two wine glasses and a bottle of Belle Glos Pinot. Setting the glasses down, she opened the wine pouring the crystal red liquid into our cups.I found Ashton amusing but there was something off about him, i just concluded it as my over thinking gut. Through out dinner, I could not suppress the laughter that formed in my chest whenever he said something childish. It was fun to find myself not thinking of what would happen next and have some good time away from my troubled past, my gripping present and my -
He was younger which could be frowned upon but i found myself loving how i felt around him. I wouldn't want to admit it but i wanted to spend some more time around him.
He walked me to my car. The weather was still chilly but the drizzling rain had stopped. Halting beside my pencil black Macan Porshe, I turned to face hm.
"I can't believe you didn't let me pay?" He pouted.
I laughed.
"Stop it..i promised you dinner and i bought you dinner.....lets be clear i no longer owe you".
"You sound like you never want to see me again", he said putting his hands into his jeans.
I couldn't reply that statement. Ignoring it, i unlocked my car.
"Its cold why don't you go home now", i said.
"Thank you Fel", i froze at the way my name fell out of his mouth. It sounded so fresh with an atom of something attached to it. I was not new to this feeling but why is it taking over me and what was that something?
"Thank you for coming out to see me.....Thank you", he spoke calmly.
The empty parking lot and its cars were the witness to the awkward silence as the crispy breeze swept its way past us.
He leaned closer, slightly gripping my shoulders.
"Go home..its cold", he said breaking the silence. Blinking repeatedly, i cleared my throat.
"Have a good one Ashton". With that i entered into the car, putting the key into ignition, i started the steering and pulled away.Stopping at the red light, i got a message.
"Drive safely..remember you had some drinks"- Ashton.
I grinned at the text oblivious to the green light.
