Felicia's POV
It's been an hour since Jon and his lawyer Philip Bowen disappeared into the police station. I turned up the volume to the radio allowing the music ring in my ears giving probabilities of calmness. I decided to stay out of the case and let Jon handle things because it was the only rational thing to do.
"Breathe....breathe", I thought to myself. I automatically started counting numbers, hoping that before one hundred i would be able to relax my mind. The driver's door opened as Jon entered the car.
"How did it go ?....where's Tan??"
Jon smiled reassuringly.
"Which one should I reply first ?" He paused looking at the rear view mirror. "There he is".
I turned around, watching Tan slide into the backseat.
"Sweetheart", I shifted in my seat reaching to pat his knee.
"There wasn't enough evidence found to hold him guilty...so the case has been dismissed."
I sighed deeply.Tanney's POV
I changed into some fresh clothes after a hot shower. Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, I dried my hair before tossing the towel on the bathroom hanger.
"What an experience".
I tried to shake off the thoughts that have been lingering around my head for days.
"Stolen gun". I pulled my hair into a tiny bun.
"The last person who had access to my car was Lisa". I closed the bathroom door behind me. Hopping into bed, I unplugged my cellphone. Nonchalantly, i scrolled through miss calls and messages.
"Unimportant", I hummed coming to a stop when I saw Lisa's message.
"Five miss calls and seven messages..she really got it going huh".Hey
Wassup Tan ??
Are you okay ?
I am so sorry....i messed up.
Did you get out yet ??
Call me.
??
"Did she get drunk again", I groaned. I read the messages again, critically this time.
"Did you get....out". I bit my lower lip, my teeth sank deeply, the slight pain gave room for me to think clearer. The fact I told no body about my incident with police was obvious. I attempted to understand what Lisa meant by all those messages.
"I didn't make any plans to hang with her recently".
The more I thought about it, I realised the last time I saw her was the day i gave her my car keys to find some lipstick she claimed was in my car. I checked the time at which the messages came in. My eyes concentrated on the screen in front of me.
I left earlier today for the police station for some interrogation. Before that, i checked my phone in the morning before leaving it behind.
"Shit..i was only gone for less than 24 hours". Curiosity could kill just about anyone. The more mine grow, the quicker i act. I dialed Lisa's number. The call went directly to her voicemail. Trying for the third time, I gave up picking up my hoodie.
"Where you off to?" Mom asked.
"Just around the corner.....i would back in few".
"I'm about to leave...you need me to drop you off ?" Dad added.
"I'm good.. l'mma be back soon".I jogged my way to Lisa's house. The matter at hand was quite sensitive, if not handled well, i could destroy our friendship. I came up with ways to approach Lisa without sounding like a jerk. Stopping in front of the two storey bungalow, I caught my breathe.
Ringing the door bell, I adjusted my hoodie.
"That must be pizza guy", I heard Lisa's voice as she opened the front door. Her face suddenly lost its vibrant colors. My lips curled into a sad smile at the expression on her face.
"C'mon in". She stuttered.
"Nope...its almost dark. Let's talk outside." The light on the porch made it easy to see her eyes. Closing the door behind her, she joined me.
"How are you ??" I asked with some concern.
"I've....I've been well".
"What are planning for the rest of the school break ?"
"Nothing special ".
I nodded my head. Intertwining my fingers I decide to hit the nail hard.
"Sorry..i had to come uninvited. I called you several times. Got no reply."
"My phone must be.....laying around somewhere". She answered avoiding my eyes again.
"Hey. I'm good. Yes I am okay. How did you mess up? Yes I got out. I did call you." I said to her directly removing any kind of negative emotion.
"What are you saying ?"
I raised my cellphone to her face, showing her the messages she had left me.
"I am replying you....face to face".
Her lips trembled as she turned away.
"Why did you do it??" I asked referring to the messages she sent.
"I..I.. Had no other option". She paused. " it was the only way to avoid trouble....plus Xavier forced me to. He....provided the gun. He made a deal with this police man. He dragged me into it. I am innocent i swear. I didn't mean to get you in trouble," she spoke fast.My heart sank at the unexpected confession. I didn't ask about the gun or the incident. I just wanted to know the meaning of the text, instead she gave me the whole story behind everything.
"You what?" My eyes turned with anger and disappointment.
"Weren't you asking about the gun found in your car ??" She turned to face me.
I remained speechless. My loss of words was the only way to express how my inside felt.
"You put the gun in my car.......wait", I raised my hand signalling her to stop. " What about the lipstick?"
The tears rolled down her face.
"I lied".
"Shit...I should be the one crying Lisa." I could no longer trust what she said or the tears in her eyes. I used to be moved at making a women cry but not now not anymore. The anger and subtle sad growing in my chest was not due to the trouble I faced with cops but due the fact my trust was broken, not just by a stranger, by family.
I staggered backward. Looking Lisa deeply in the eyes. I never prayed to put someone down but I had to.
"Go in..its cold". My eye said differently from my lips.
"T..t-tan". She reached forward.
"Don't touch me....I'm fine. It's all in the past okay. Go in its getting cold."
I walked past her, leaving the porch i jogged my way back home.Yes y'all. What do you think of Tanney's reaction?? Did he handle the situation well??
