Running through the crowded halls of S.H.I.E.L.D. must be a hobby of mine or something because I tend to do it a lot. I push past all the agents, their dirty looks and furrowed brows burning into my back. I turn down endless hallways, the journey to the detention hall a long and confusing one. Whoever designed S.H.I.E.L.D. really did not want anyone randomly stumbling across the detention hall. Or maybe so no one could efficiently escape from the detention hall. Either one is a reasonable explanation. I finally make it to the detention hall, my breathing rapid and staggered, off set by swollen tears. I'm instantly surprised by the lack of guards. The hall is empty except for the doors that separate us. I rush to Loki's, entering the code to unlock the door. I push it open, Loki's attention snapping up towards me. I sprint into the room and wrap my arms around him tightly, sobbing into his chest. His body tenses under my touch, surprised by my actions. He stands there awkwardly, his hands staying by his side, his body rigid.
"Jet Alice? Why are you embracing me?" he asks in a thick accent.
"I'm- adopted-" I manage through sobs. Loki's body relaxes under my touch, his arms wrapping around me in a tight hug.
"You finally figured it out..." he lingers. I nod, another sob escaping my lips.
"Why didn't they tell me?! Why didn't you or Steve or Bucky tell me?! Why didn't anyone tell me?! I have a fucking right to know where I came from!" I yell, suddenly infuriated. I push away from Loki, who's face shows concern.
"Jet Alice, you need to calm down."
"NO! I'm more than pissed... I.. WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME?! I grew up living a lie! Calling Tony dad, Pepper mom..." I begin pacing in the small room, my head pounding and willing to explode.
"Jet Alice, if I m-"
"No you may not! I can't believe they would hide something like that from me! I could ju-"
"Jet Alice! You need to calm down! These feelings of rage and hatred will cause you to perform actions that you will deeply regret later. Trust me when I say that I am speaking from experience." Loki warns, stepping closer to me.
"And they're having another kid! Was I not enough for them?! Do they need to replace me?! Did Hydra ruin me so much that they feel they must forget that I exist and put another kid in my place? I'm already living in this kid's shadow and it's not even born yet! I... I gotta get out of here!" I say, quickly walking toward the door.
"Jet Alice wait!" Loki pleas behind me. "Just... wait." I let go of the door knob and turn my attention to him.
"What do you want Loki?" I snap.
"Before you go on your wondrous journey, just please, remember who you are."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Just, remember who you are. Please."
"Whatever Loki. I'm done here." I take off, out of the room. I sprint through the halls yet again until I reach the garage. I slide into my Corvette, my phone ringing in my pocket. I push the ignition and shift into gear as I pull out my phone. Tony is calling me. I hit ignore. I push the car as fast as it can go, feeling the pull of the speed against my body. Anger and rage flood through my body, my voice of reason getting fuzzy. My phone begins ringing again in my lap. I groan and pick it up, my eyes falling on the contact name: Steve. I slide to answer it and put it up to my ear.
"What?" I ask bitterly.
"Jet, I know you're really mad right now about finding out that you're adopted and all-"
