CHAPTER 8

On my way to school I decided to stop at a coffee shop to get something to eat, since I didn't get to finish eating my food this morning. What a waste of perfect pancakes.

I walked into the coffee shop, which wasn't far from the apartment. I noticed a 'help wanted' sign on the door. I really needed a job, I can't expect Damon to buy me everything I need and I also owe him for my new clothes. I had thirty more minutes before I had to get to school, so I decided to try out for the job.

Twenty minutes later, I had a job. I was so excited I didn't feel hungry anymore. Even when I got to school late, that didn't damper my mood. I had history first and with Mr Knight. Thinking about this morning and last night really soured my mood and I didn't want to go to class, but I reminded myself that a good education was very important.

I walked into class apologizing to my history teacher and sat down on my seat, not meeting anyone's eye. A note landed on my desk a few minutes later, I knew it was from Ashen so I opened it. 'What's wrong' it read, 'I'll tell you during lunch' I scribbled quickly and passed it back.

After class Mr Knight asked me to wait behind which I did. Two days in a row, I hope no one finds that suspicious. After the last student left he closed the door and walked to his desk.

I kept my head down waiting for him to say something and when he didn't I looked up to find him scratching the back of his neck trying not to meet my eye. He looked really cute when nervous.

Shut up.

"Taylor I..um..want to apologize about this morning" he said still looking very anxious.

Oh that.

"Its okay" I said and smiled at him, its his house after all. He smiled back, "now get to class" he said, voice sounding relived. I rolled my eyes and stood up from my desk making my way to the door.

"Oh and Taylor" he said making me stop and turn around. "I'm having a meeting after school, won't be back early" he said, "okay" I replied.

Another meeting.

I was about to leave when he stopped me, again. "How come you were late this morning when you left early", he asked and that reminded me. "I got a job" I said excitedly.

"That's great, where and when will you start?" he asked, "the café not far from your apartment and I start tomorrow" I answered, my initial excitement coming back.

"Congratulations" he said, "thanks". I left his classroom and went to my locker where I found Ashen leaning against my locker waiting for me.

"Are you okay? Why were you late? Did something happen?" he asked question after question not even waiting for me to answer anyone. Its just like him to worry.

"Ash I'm okay, I'll explain during lunch like I said before" I told him, "you better" he responded. "Hey" I heard a familiar voice say behind me, I turned around and found Logan smiling at us. "Hey" Ashen and I replied.

"So, I'm throwing a party this Saturday and I was wondering if you guys would want to come" he asked. Logan Mitchel was known for the wild parties he threw whenever his parents weren't home. I was going to turn him down, but Ashen beat me to it. "Sure we'd love to go" he answered, "great I'll see you there" he said and left to join his football buddies down the hall.

The warning bell rang, I slammed my locker shut and left Ashen behind, walking alone to my next class. I was clearly pissed at him for what he just did. A party wasn't my scene and Ashen knew this, yet he accepted Logan's invitation anyway. He didn't even bother to ask me.

I walked into my Math class and sat down on my seat, the teacher wasn't here yet. Ashen sat down next to me a few minutes later.

"Tay, I know you're mad but its Logan Mitchel's party and its also our final year and I think we ought to have the full high school experience. So will you pretty please go to the party with me" he asked, he did have a point and I couldn't stay mad at him for long.

Our math teacher came in and classes started.

I guess I'm going to a party this Saturday.
