Lord Death and Asura were locked in battle, Kid and the others had already gotten the city mostly evacuated, and things were looking grim. If I weren't cursed and could use my magic, this would have ended by now, but instead the past four hours were agonizing. Lord Death was on his last leg at this point, and with my father giving Asura more power every time he tired out, this may not ever end, if we don't lose. I stayed with my mother at the edge of the city, keeping an eye open for citizens that may need help, the rest were around in the streets, sending anyone they found over to Mother and I. Everyone was on edge, ready to leap into battle in the case that Lord Death may need our help, Maka and Soul had already taken a few hits when the Reaper was knocked off balance, but that didn't make anything better. Suddenly, as if out of no where, dozens of witches approached the city, I don't know what they were planning, but it couldn't have been good.
"you stay here and keep any citizen from leaving the city until there's a gap for them to leave. I'll handle these witches." Mum rushed out the gate and immediately into battle, Brit and I were alone...
I didn't know what happened, but somewhere near the academy I heard a huge explosion, and saw smoke rising into the air. Next thing I know I can see Kid flying over there at top-speed on Beelzebub, and my mother rushing in, leaving the witch situation to the meisters on the perimeter. at the site of the explosion all we could see was the smoke in front of us and the next person three feet away. I could hear Maka asking Soul what happened, and BlackStar yelling insults at Asura. All I could imagine was the worst...and unfortunately...imagination was about to become reality.
When the smoke faded, a huge crater was left in the ground, with Asura standing injured in the center, black shreds and the shards of Lord Death's skull mask lying at his feet. I felt like my own soul had just left my body, I couldn't move, couldn't breathe. I was vaguely aware of tears building up in my eyes when Kid cried out with a shaking voice.
"DEATH CANNON!" a blast rang out and everyone sprung into action, Maka and Soul, BlackStar and Tsubaki, and Kid and the Thompsons flung themselves into battle with Asura as Mother whisked me and Brit away before I could react. We were now the biggest target for my father in Death City, and the barrier that was created by Lord Death's soul was now fading. When we finally reached the Death Room, Mum bolted the door behind us and put up a barrier around the room, in hopes that we could get some peace to figure out what to do.
There was only one way to restore the barrier over Death City, and protect them, the meisters and weapons.
First we needed to draw the enemy away...
Mother contacted the others and told them to lead Asura and my father away from the city, almost immediately I felt their presence fading into the distance. The three of us waited for the witches to follow them, Mother putting soul protect over all of us. When they all disappeared, we silently put the plan into motion. I stood in the middle of the Death Room, the shattered mirror behind me. Mother looked at Brit, who seemed like she needed to say something, almost immediately tears appeared in her eyes.
"Come back soon, ok? I'll protect you while you're asleep. Just...don't leave me behind." She ran up and hugged me, I couldn't say anything, or I'd be crying too. She stepped back a bit and wiped her tears away, sniffling a bit. We both nodded at Mother. She held out a hand to me, and hesitantly, I reached out for it. When our hands touched, a spark of purple light appeared between us. Mum's skin began to turn black, and flake away. Too late to turn back. She disappeared completely and a crystal began to form around my feet. I couldn't move. Then everything, once again, faded into peaceful darkness.

KID'S POV
---
It's been hours since we left Death City. We were coming upon Brooklyn now. BlackStar then cried out in pain and flew past me, right through the fance of Green Wood cemetary. I turned to the Kishin and sent two more Death Cannon blasts at him, not that it would do much. Maka had the idea of attacking Grim, but it did nothing, and she was sent back with BlackStar. Crona managed to land a hit with Screech Alpha, before going to make sure Maka was alright. It was better if they stayed back. This was my fight.
I had to avenge my father.
---
The battle was long, and I'll be honest, tiring. I could barely stand, and Asura only seemed to have a few scratches on him. This wasn't going well.
