Chapter 41: No Time

so, i think the next chapter will be the finale. we're almost there :)

and depending on how all of you react to the ending, i might write a sequel. idk.

~Hailey's POV~

I followed Nathan down the hallways, i turned as we passed the cells. there i saw people i knew, friends of mine. i sighed as i eyed them all. one of them did this, i couldn't imagine any of them doing it. Peyton is one of my good friends. Lia, yeah we may not be that close, but what would she have against my brother? And Jace, Jace was his cell mate while in jail. i don't know how Jace ended up in jail... but he doesn't know Hunter that well, does he?

Nathan pulled me along to his office, as i sighed again. "i just want you to look through all the security tapes we have on that night, alright?" he asked me, as he sat me down in his chair.

"that's it?" i clarified.

"yeah, just listen to the audio, if you can pick up anything, or watch the camera to see if any or all three of them pass by. and if you find anything; anything at all. call me, like if you found enough proof to prove that one of them is the culprit call me. i'll be doing patrols around down, so just call me okay, Hailey?" he nodded, as he placed headphones on my ears.

i nodded, smiled and gave him the thumbs up before i pressed play. he smiled before walking outside.

here we go.

"how much longer do you think the case will be?"

"well now that Hailey's on it, i know she won't stop until the culprit is found" Connor nodded.

"yeah, that does sound like Hailey" Ricky agreed.

"i just hope she's okay, and doesn't find anything too disturbing" Trevor sighed.

"i hope so too, i hope she does find whoever did this. but i don't understand? what are the motives? what do Lia, Peyton and Jace all have against Hunter? last time i checked, Jace and Lia just met Hunter. y'know? Jace met him in prison, and Lia she met him when we did" Jc asked.

"you do have a point Jc, but they could've met sooner. i don't know... it just feels like we're missing something. i really hope Hailey's okay"

"she can do this, i believe in her. i do" Connor nodded.

"let's see what you're hiding" Hailey smiled, as she pressed play. she took out a notepad and began to write things she observed; the time; who arrived at the docks and at what time; who left the docks and at what time; if anyone brought anything suspicious, etc.

at around 1:55 a.m she paused the video. "someone in a black hoodie, hello who are you? and what's on your back? a backpack? a backpack full of what?" she questioned as she scribbled down some notes. 

"who are you? it's too dark to see your face, even if i zoom in!" she yelled, frustrated at the screen.

"HEY! Get officers over here... everyone has to see this!" A officer yelled, followed by multiple officers running and screaming in the hallways.

Hailey paused the video tapes and took out her headphones to hear the chaos. she got up and walked into the hallway. she stopped an officer. "what's going on?" she asked.

"just come and see" he answered as he pulled her along. Hailey joined the rest of the officers, she turned and looked at what they saw. "oh my god!" how?" she asked baffled.

"we're trying to figure this out" a cop answered.

"someone call Nathan!" another yelled.

"i will!" Hailey announced, as she pulled out her cell phone and walked away from the crowd. she dialed his number and waited.

"yeah?" he asked.

"hey, sorry to bother you but we have a problem here"

"what is it?"

"Peyton and Lia... they kinda escaped"

"Jace didn't?" he asked, confused.

"no... he's still in his cell... but they did... which leads me to believe that one of the girls did it. why else would they escape, they knew i was looking through the tapes... they wanted to escape before i caught them. but it's true. they're gone, Nathan"

who do you think did it? Lia or Peyton? or maybe even Jace did it, and chose to stay and accept it?

i really hope all of you are enjoying the story so far, but it's almost at it's end. i just wanted to thank everyone for reading. means a lot to me. i know there are things i could've done to make this story better and i'm sorry i didn't do them.

i could've explained things more, but that's what makes it interesting... to find out later why certain things happened.
