Chapter 24: The Dark One

“I have something to say” Peyton whispered.

“Go on”

“I-I’m going home”

“WHAT?!” Sam, Hailey and Kian yelled.

“I’m. Going. Home.” Peyton stated again.

“Peyton…. why?” Hailey asked, as she walked towards her closest friend.

“C-Can I have a word with you?” She asked Hailey.

“Sure” Hailey whispered, as they walked into the house.

“What’s wrong? Why are you leaving? I thought you liked it here? Did I do something? Was it your parents? Did they find out? I-”

"No, Hailey.... this has nothing to do with the hospitality you and your brother and his friends have shown to me. I'm not going to lie, I was pretty scared when i found out I was pregnant but i need to go home Hailey, I hope you can understand that. I love Sam, i do. But I can't be selfish and ruin his life. He has a huge future being a Youtuber, it's his dream and I can't take that away from him. So, leaving is the best decision for everyone. I can go home and my parents can help me raise my child. Sam.... well Sam will get to live the life he always wanted. Everyone is happy"

 "I'm not happy about this. And i know Sam won't be either. You're not, I can tell... just stay. Your parents won't have to know, you'll have my mom, Robert, Connor.. and all of us to help you along the way"

"No, I can't be selfish here... my parents... they'll be mad at first but they'll understand" Peyton hesitated.

"Is there something you're not telling me? Telling us?" Hailey asked, as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"What?! Of course not! You're my best friend, you know i tell you everything!" Peyton practically yelled.

"Right. You are, my best friend. Sorry, it's just I'm a little stressed" Hailey sighed.

"How come? Do you want to talk about it?" Peyton asked.

"You know my other brother right?" Hailey whispered, as she took a seat on the kitchen counter.

"Hunter? That's his name right? I think.... I think he went to my summer camp, he i think was one of the leaders" Peyton nodded.

"You know how we were little? And he'd like get in a lot of trouble? Well, my Dad called me a few days ago. Apparently Hunter, he got arrested again. I don't know... if he'll have to go to jail again, my mom wants me to attend when he's summoned to court again. I don't know how i feel about this, he gives me the creeps and makes me sick. I don't know if i'll be able to control myself in front of him... ew" Hailey wrinkled her nose.

"Oh. How old is he again? And what is this, his 5th court sentencing?" Peyton asked.

"23. And no, it's his third... I wish they'd take him away. Yes, he's my step-brother. But he'll always be that, nothing more, nothing less than that. I prefer Connor over him any day." Hailey whispered.

"But why do you have to go out of all people? That's absurd?!"

"My mother, wants me to testify for him, she also wants us to spend some quality time together.. as if, the last time he showed up here, he tried to kill us both. Yeah, he's 'changed' as if, he needs to be locked away"

"Well maybe he has changed" Peyton suggested.

"You can't be serious?! The last time he stepped into this house, he had a gun and he fired it at my mother. Yes Peyton, he's totally 'changed'? Are you kidding me?!"
