~Chapter 3~
~Hailey's POV~
I could feel the awkwardness, as I ran past him as I felt his glares send chills down my spine.
I will not be doing that again.
I rushed past him and down the hallway, trying to escape him as fast as I could. I wanted to know him. I wanted to make this work. For my mom and her happiness. Jc left and me being sad doesn't mean my mom should be.
I'll make this work. I don't want my Mom alone and single again because I didn't get along with her fiancé's son.
I ran into the living room and jumped on the couch, I leaned my head back as I closed my eyes. Taking a moment of silence to think.
"Hey, I'm going to the grocery store, do you want to come Hailey. It'd be a great chance to get to know each other" Robert's voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Sure, let me get my jacket" I replied as I lifted my head up and got off the couch and walked upstairs.

As I walked past his door he seemed to be on the phone with someone.
"Yeah bro, my Dad's going out. He'll take Dianna's daughter. As for Dianna, she'll be in the garden for hours. You guys can come over..... Yeah, they're leaving in a few minutes.... Alright see you in 20" He smiled.
I kept walking before he noticed me. So, he didn't want me here. Fine, two can play it this way. Game on.
I hurried to my room and grabbed my jacket off my bed. Before I slipped out of my room and down the hall, once again stopping by his door.
"Hey, they'll be gone soon... Hey, I've missed you too. It'll be great to catch up."
Unbelievable, I thought as I walked downstairs.
When I reached the bottom of the stairs stood Robert with his car keys. He smiled as I looked up. "You ready Hailey?" He smiled.
I nodded as I walked off with him to his car. This wouldn't be as terrible as I thought it would be.

Robert and I had a good time. I didn't think grocery shopping could be so much fun. He popped the truck as I started helping him unload the groceries.
"No Robert, I'll take them inside. Let me" I offered.
"Thank you, Hailey, I got these four. I'll be right behind you" He smiled, as I opened the garage door to the kitchen.
I set the bags down near the kitchen in the hallway, I could hear him and his friends talking.
"Hey, Dad?" He called out.
"Your father's still out at the moment" My mother spoke, as she entered the living room where his friends and he sat.
"Where is he, Dianna?"
"Out with Hailey" My mother replied.
"Who's Hailey?" One of his friends spoke up.
"My step-sister" He rolled his eyes.
"No, soon to be step-sister. My daughter" My mom smiled.
He grunted.
"They went grocery shopping" My mother smiled at the boys. There were four of them in the living room with him.
