"Take it all back" Raelyn said, her shoes tapping against the tiles beneath her heels.
Zyaire said nothing and kept his eyes on the file on his table, his thumb rubbing on the crease between his brows.
He heard her, clearly actually, but he knew this would only lead to an argument and possibly a slap that would leave him dumbfounded and without the ability to speak or do anything.
He loved talking to people only when he knew he was in control. That was what being a businessman was about anyways, being in control of the things around you and it was not a thing of difficulty for him. He knew how and was able to control the situation he was in at all times, control the emotions of whoever he was speaking to and making them bend to his will...well, till he met the woman who was currently standing in front of his table, in his office.
She was headstrong and like an unmoving rock. She was kind of like a trampoline, no matter how hard you pushed her down, she always bounced back to her normal position.
He didn't know whether to find it admirable or annoying. At the moment, he didn't have to think much, he found her persistence extremely irritating but there he was maintaining his calm.
There was no point flaring out and doing anything rash. She was carrying his baby after all.
"Hello, do you not hear me?" She tried again and he let out an irritated sigh inwardly
"What is it?" He asked, his pen mouth pressed to a piece of paper as he wrote down important notes.
"I know you're busy but can you just give me your attention for five minutes? That's all and I'll be out" she said, a bit frustrated that he was ignoring her. She wasn't in the best mood since she got back from the hospital with him the other day.
It had been a little over a week since she confirmed that she was pregnant and it had been a week since she had been so tired and just overall weak. Standing up from the bed in the mornings was a huge problem for her now and every time she made an abrupt movement or walked for too long, she felt queasy and about ready to throw up all she had in her.
Somehow the feeling of wanting to vomit and not being able to is worse than actually even vomiting. Not only was she experiencing fatigue, she was always on edge, every little thing setting her off.
Having to take care and prepare breakfast for Sky didn't help either and she always had to take extra care to not snap in annoyance at the innocent child.
"I'm listening, am I not?" He asked simply, still looking down at the paper and writing
"Whatever. Just take back all those stuff you sent, I don't need them" she said, wiping the small bead of sweat breaking on her forehead
How could she possibly be sweating in a fully air conditioned office? She honestly didn't understand her body these days.
"Why should I take them back?" He asked, glancing briefly at his laptop screen and back at the paper
"Cause I don't want them. I am quite fine with all I have" she stated, crossing her arms over her chest
"All you have is not good enough"
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me. I cannot possibly allow my baby to live with such...low grade things" he says, scorn evident in his voice
"Low grade things? What, is your baby going to die cause my bed does not cost a million dollars?" She asks, irritation and annoyance brewing in her although she felt too tired to express it.
"Possibly. I want to train him to live in wealth" Zyaire says finally giving her the 'honour' of being looked at by him
"Train...what? Your 'baby' is barely even a month old, what training are you talking about?" she snapped "Do you even realise how stupid you sound? I want to train him to live in wealth" she mimics at the last sentence with what was her best 'Mr Zimmermann sounds stupid' voice
A voice she used quite often whenever she suddenly remembered what he had done in the past and had a need to punch him in the face or watch him shrivel up and die.
"I do not sound like that" Zyaire said, her attempt at a copy of his voice being the only thing that caught his attention
"I do not sound like that" she mimicked again "yes you sound like that. Very stupid" she said her voice back to normal
"Excuse me?"
"Did you not hear me?" She asks curtly
"Look miss..."
"Raelyn, it's just Raelyn" she said cutting him off. It just occurred to her that she had never heard him call her name. She never ever heard her name slip his lips and considering their too many meetings, it was pretty weird.
"Whatever it is, look. Can you leave? You're obviously not in the right state of mind so I think it'd be best you go home and be grateful for all I have given you" he says
"I'm not in the right state...what the...you're not in the right state of mind!" She snapped. It was like his every word pricked her and she had no control of her emotions and so without an effort or thought, she shot back words at him.
"Oh god..." She murmured under her breath, feeling a wave of nausea rush through her at her sudden outburst. Her head spun and she felt the room spin slowly in her eyes.
Was it just her or was the room actually spinning?
"Listen...I'm sorry but..." She tried again "I..um..." She trailed off, her hand holding her head as she slowly lost her balance. She honestly felt all her energy seeping out of her and she suddenly felt cold.
Was she not just sweating??!
"Are you okay?" Zyaire asked, noticing the distressed woman. Without a thought, he rushed over to her, holding her quickly in his arms just as she lost her balance and fell.
"I...I'm fine" she muttered, trying to keep her eyes open. Being in his arms like that was making it difficult though. It was like her brain had assumed he was some sort of bed and was telling her to fall asleep. Somehow she couldn't control herself, she couldn't snap out of it, her weak body wouldn't let her, her mind wouldn't either.
"Hey..hey, stay awake" Zyaire said, tapping her cheek lightly as he saw her slowly fall unconscious. He knew this wasn't her just falling asleep.
"I'm tired.." She said quietly, her voice barely audible and her eyes barely open
"Just stay awake..." He said but his voice sounded distant to her. Very distant. She could barely hear it, in fact.
"Your tie...looks nice.." Was the last thing she let slip from between her lips before she fell into a darkness.
