Chapter 8
I woke up to the sound of the hotel phone ringing I opened my eyes and looked at the time 07:00am. I picked up the hotel phone “Hello?” I groaned “Good Morning this is your morning call” said the polite receptionist “I don’t mean to sound rude but I didn’t ask for a morning call” I said “I was asked by a person called Kat Simpson” said the receptionist “Oh okay thanks” I said and hug up. I guess Kat knew me well enough that I wouldn’t remember to set my alarm for today and even if I did she knew that I probably wouldn’t get up. I checked my phone and I had a new message from *Tom Tom Daley* 1 minuet ago:
Morninggggg when you get this come down and meet me and Andy for breakfast, he is boring me so bring Kat with you J xxxx
I clicked reply
Morning Daley yeah sure be down in 15 xxxx
I sent the message and texted Kat and she said she would come over in 10. I still hadn’t got over what she had told me last night the words still ran through my head. Why did I keep thinking about it surely she was wrong and I was over thinking things right? I mean me and Tom get on really well but we could never be more than that and I sure Tom didn’t think of me in that way; he thinks of me as a Kid I mean he always calls me Kido and I am the baby of the team. I got dressed into my leggings, my tracksuit hoodie and a black vest top. As soon as Kat got here we made our way down to breakfast to meet the boys. She hadn’t said anything about our talk last night. She was acting completely normal with me and that’s how I wanted it to be. As we walked into the breakfast hall I spotted Tom and Daley sat at a table in the corner. Tom was eating cereal and looking bored as Andy was probably giving him tips on his diving for today as he read his newspaper. “Morning” Kat smiled as we approached their table I sat opposite Tom and Next to Kat. “Morning” Tom replied and smiled at me. “Ah May as I was just telling Tom a minute ago…” trailed on Andy and Tom rolled his eyes “Remember most important thing is as you enter the water” he had told us this millions of times and I just nodded to keep him happy. Kat ordered my breakfast for me because I was on a strict diet so she had ordered me porridge with an apple. Great just what I wanted. As it arrived I tucked into my breakfast and Andy started explaining everything about today about the times of our dives ect.
Once we had finished breakfast I quickly ran up to my room to fetch my kit bag then we were off to the pool. Andy was sat in the front with Kat so I was with Tom in the back. “You nervous?” he asked as he looked at my hands which were shaking. I nodded “Can you tell?” “Well your hands are shaking like mad and I know you too well you are always nervous before a competition but you somehow manage to turn the nerves into a great dive” he stated and I blushed “Trust me your be fine and you’re not doing it alone you have me away I’ll be your good luck charm” he grinned, trust Tom to say something that cheesy. I burst out laughing and he gave me a confused look “What?” he asked “That’s so cheesy Tom” “I know but you love it” he laughed. “As much as I hate to admit it you’re right it wouldn’t be you without your cheesiness” I grinned. “You know what Kido you are one in a million you always make me smile” “Thanks Daley you are so bad you self”.
It took about another hour until we reached the pool; parked the car and had gotten changed ready to compete. I had currently finished stretching and had my ipod up fall blast to get me into the diving mode. When I had my ipod up full blast I feel like I am in a completely different world I guess it’s how I feel when I dive and it’s something I couldn’t live without. I suddenly felt someone tap my shoulder I turned around to be faced with Tom. I pulled out my headphones “Are you ready we have to start going up now” he smiled “Okay” I smiled I put my ipod into my bag and we walked towards the stairs.
As we made our way up gradually towards the 10 meter I ran though the routine in my head and figured out where I should be at each point of the dive and stretched out to make sure my muscles didn’t cramp as I dived. We had one lot of stairs to go until we reached the 10 meter platform. “You okay?” Tom asked “Yeah just I need to zone out” I smiled and he pulled me into a hug “Trust me we can do it” he smiled “Remember I am your lucky charm diver girl” “Okay whatever you say diver boy” I winked. We made our way to the top board and we both chucked down our shammys I ran though my dive once more in my head; then got in position to do the 4 and a half somersaults are first dive. “Ready?” he asked I took a deep breath “Yep” “Okay 1,2,3” I took another deep breathe and ran towards the end of the board and chucked myself into a tight ball position. As I hit the water I knew I had dived well I re surfaced as swam to the edge and climbed out I looked next to me to see Tom climbing out as well. We both turned to look at the big screen which showed a replay of the dive and our score. Our dive came up of the screen and I noticed we were perfectly in sync and our score of 91.0 came up a massive smile appeared on Tom’s face as we walked over to the showers, as the camera came on us both, we both smiled and waved.
Me and Tom finished 2nd overall so that meant we had qualified for the Olympics and we had only lost over 2 over points. “We fucking did it!” I shouted into Tom’s ears as he pulled me into a hug “I told you I would bring you luck” he winked. We both ran over to were our bags were and pulled on our tracksuits and we ran over to Kat and Andy who pulled us into massive hugs “I’m so proud of you May” Kat screeched in my ear. “I can’t believe it” I cried and the tears just came pouring out. “Don’t cry come on you will have to go on the podium in a min imagine what you are going to be like at the Olympics” she smiled “Okay and I know I need to pull myself together” I said and wiped my eyes. Tom and I were rushed over to the podium and we stood behind our sliver place. As the commentator said our names with both waved to the crowd with massive smiles on our faces and we got given our medals and a bunch of flowers. This was a day to remember. I wasn’t only going in for another event in the Olympics. But I was going with my best friend.
