Chapter 13

The past couple of days had been amazing me and Katie had, had our practise sessions, primarily rounds and the semi finals but it was the final which was tonight, and I have to admit it I was petrified I shivered at the thought of tonight, but I had made it to the finals! I had spoken to Stace and Dad and they were both buzzing and said the support I was getting was amazing. In the semi’s we did dives which were good but a few which we knew we couldn’t do tonight otherwise we would have no chance in getting a medal. Tonia and I were currently in the crowds waiting to watch Tom and Pete compete in their final synro event. We both had our GB kits on with small union jacks painted on our cheeks with our flags to be great team mates that we were. Before they had both gone the get changed we gave them both a massive hugs and good lucks, even though I had a feeling they wouldn’t need it I mean they got gold at the world championships! I could tell Tom was nervous even though he wouldn’t admit it, he always bites his lip when he’s nervous so that’s how I could tell that he was.   

We watched each diving pair take their turn and do their dives and I have to say the other divers were defiantly in top form today. “How many more to go until Tom and Pete?” I asked Tonia “Um I think about 2” she smiled “Cool thanks, they have some competition I mean the Chinese were well on top form” “Yeah, I know but so are our boys they are ready for this like we all are, you nervous about tonight?” “Yeah extremely I mean I am also dead excited it just its going to be in front of loads of people and shown on TV and the whole of Britain is relying on me to get a medal. But I know I’m just being silly everyone is under pressure here.”  “It’s okay to be nervous I mean I am and you’re much younger than me! But the way I have seen you dive you don’t need to be, what I think to myself is, if I was going to do shit I wouldn’t be here in the Olympics, we have worked hard and earned our spot here just tell yourself that” she smiled. “Thanks Tonia you’re the best for advice” I said and pulled her into a hug.

We suddenly jumped as we heard the whole of the aquatics centre roar “There they are!” I pointed to Tom and Pete who had just reached the 10 meter platform. Tonia and I screamed and shouted our heads off then they got in position to start their dive so everyone sat back down and was quiet.

“And the silver medal goes to Peter Waterfield and Thomas Daley representing Great Britain” bellowed the commentator the crowd went wild. “Wooooooooooooooooooooooop! GO TOM AND PETE” I screamed “I am so proud of them” Tonia shouted over the noise I nodded and continued shouting. The boys both got awarded their Silver Medals they were smiling and I could tell they were ecstatic! It was great to see my best friend on that podium he deserved it. Me and Tonia left the aquatic’s centre as we made our way to see Tom and Pete as we made re-joined the rest of the team.  I quickly tweeted ‘ Massive congrats to my boys @TomDaley1994 and @PeterWaterfield who got silver in the mens synro 10m so proud of you both, you deserved it! Xxx’ I smiled and clicked tweet. I looked up to see Tom and Peteas they bounced out of the changing rooms with their medals hanging from their necks I ran up to Tom and pulled him into a massive hug “You did it diver boy!” I screeched he picked me up and span me round. “I am so happy” he beamed “Your dad would be so proud of you” “Thank you, it’s your turn next” he said and pulled away, I smiled nervously. He must have noticed because he pulled me back into a firm hug he whispered into my ear “Trust me kido I know you’ll be fine just don’t stress about it and do the thing your good at” he kissed my head “Thanks Daley” after I congratulated Pete and admired their medals Kat ran over to us “May and Katie it’s time to start heading over there for your practise for tonight” “Ahhhh” Katie smiled I felt myself shaking as the nerves began to take over me. Everyone wished us good luck and we began to make our way back to the aquatics centre.  Before I walked away from Tom he pulled me back by my wrist I stuttered back “Remember the that time when you couldn’t do that dive and then after you really concentrated you did it the best you had ever done?” he asked “But that was because you did the dive with me Tom you were there” “You don’t need me to help you, just zone out and focus and enjoy it” he smiled “Hurry up May!” Katie shouted “Coming!” I smiled and Tom and he smiled back then I ran over to Katie.

“You ready for this May?” Katie asked  “Ready as I’ll ever be, we can do this” I took a sip of my water and quickly tweeted ‘Very nervous about tonight! Hope I’ll make you all proud. Me and Katie are competing in the 10m synro tune into bbc1 J xx’  I was just about to put my phone away when I got a mention from a person I follow it was from Tom ‘Massive good luck to my girl @MayTierney_xo and Katie tonight in the 10 meter synro GO ON GIRLS! #teamGB Jxx’ I smiled and placed my phone into my kit bag.

‘Representing Great Britain Katie Thompson and May Tierney!’  We both smiled and waved to the crowd. There was tons of flashing as so many were taking pictures as I looked up at the stands tons of union jack flags were being waved. We stepped back as the commentator introduced the rest of the competitors. I saw Kat who was watching us, sitting were most of the other coaches were and she looked happy. I tried to look for Tom and Tonia who I knew were in the crowd somewhere but I couldn’t see them. Katie and I were 8th to compete. So it was a waiting game.
