Chapter 19
A few days had passed since I got my silver medal and got Tom’s note I had to do various press stuff and interviews that day. Which was fun. Tom had come second in his individual as well also had a silver medal and Tonia and Rebecca had managed to get bronze in theirs too. So everyone was in high spirits. Me, Tonia and Chris watched Tom in his event and we screamed and I hate to admit but I shed a few tears when he won as well as when Tonia got hers. They both totally deserved them, they have both worked so hard for them and with the medals we had won it meant our diving centre back home would get funded! Which meant many more children could join the diving club and would hopefully enjoy it as much as we do.
Tom and I have been seeing each other as much as we can, we see each other loads but we are always training or in the gym or having talk’s with Kat and Andy. In a way I just wish everyone knew so we didn’t have to sneak around all the time, like we would sneak out early in the morning around 4 or 5 am so no one would catch us then get back in time before they got up so no one know we were gone in the first place. But yesterday we got back from 2 days at Southend for a training camp to pre pare for our event. We had dived well there which was great and it made me a little more confident that I was before. Then just after we got back yesterday we were rushed to the bbc studio in the village because we had an interview. They asked the usual questions like ‘Are you nervous?” “Is all the pressure hard to cope with?” “How does it feel to be here?” “You’re only young what’s your plans for later in life?”. It was nice to be with him though just his presence made me happy. No one else had found out which was the main thing.
I was currently training with Tom because our finals event was tomorrow. We had gotten through the semi’s in 1st place and just behind us was the Chinese. We both knew we couldn’t mess up tomorrow because one dive with a slight mistake could cost us the competition. It was late at night and to be honest I was exhausted after the semi being so early this morning. I just wanted to be in bed. As Tom and I got to the top platform for what felt like the 100th time in the past few hours I sighed and rubbed my eyes. Tom came up from behind me and put his hand on my shoulder and whispered “You ok babe?” I pretended to be stretching so Kat or Andy wouldn’t tell us off for not concentrating or for talking too much, Tom caught on so he did the same. “Just tired and feed up of Kat telling us what to do and shouting I know she is doing what she has to do but I feel exhausted I just wanna sleep especially for our even tomorrow” “If we just do this dive I will help you try and persuade her that we need our sleep and that we should stop; yeah I think I’m getting a headache from Andy moaning at me I think they forget sometimes we are only 17 and 18” he said as he chucked down his shammy “Yep agree” I smiled “you ready?” he asked I nodded as we headed to the edge of the board. I place my arms above my head; closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths “Oh and May” Tom said I opened my eyes and turned my head around to look at him “Yeah?” “I love you diver girl” he winked “I love you too diver boy” I grinned “Ready?” he asked again I turned back around “yep” “Ok 1, 2,3 go” he said and I jumped up into the pike position.
I held my breath as sliced though the water, I swam to the surface and followed Tom to the edge of the pool to hear Kat and Andy’s comments. I pulled myself up and out of the pool and walked over to both coaches “That was good guys” Kat smiled “Nothing wrong with it at all?” I asked a little shocked every dive we had done in this training session she always had something to add and something we could improve on. “Nope it was perfect” she smiled “Thank God” I yawned “Why are you yawning?” Kat asked “Well the reason people yawn Kat is because there’re tired” I said sarcastically Tom laughed “I’m not stupid” she defended she looked at the clock at the other side of the pool “Oh my God is that the time you both should be in bed you have a big day tomorrow” she said. “Good work though guys” Andy said “Thanks” me and Tom both said. After I showered and got changed and Kat walked me back to my apartment with Andy doing the same to Tom giving us tips and more advice for tomorrow, I had already heard everything she had told me but I decided to let her carry on if I told her she would just start from the beginning again.
When she finally left me at my apartment and after my rant about her to Katie then she reminded me of tomorrow so I went to bed and read a text from Tom I had received.
‘See you tomorrow babe our big day to shine! Love you see you tomorrow xxxx ♥’ he was so cute ii smiled to myself and replied
‘Love you diver boy our day tomorrow let’s kick some Chinese but ;) xxx’ I sent it then placed my phone on my bedside table then closed my eyes. I had a big day tomorrow a massive day in fact and I was insanely excited!
