Will

He drove this family apart. He ruined himself first, then he ruined us. My father is a monster.

He broke my mother's heart, he almost killed my brother, he drove my sister insane. All for nothing. And now my brother is defending him.

I can't blame him. He wasn't there. I sat in the living room all those years ago, staring at a blank television.

"I can't believe you. I just can't." My mother had dropped her voice so soft I could barely hear it. "First Henry and the river, and now this?"

"I told you, I'm sorry," he said. Empty words to fill an empty space. "I have to go." I could hear the alcohol dripping from his breath.

My mother cried as my father turned his back. He stumbled out the door and I never saw him again. I left after that. I couldn't bear to stay with my heartbroken mother.

I rush up the stairs and try to turn the doorknob. It's locked. "Damn it, Henry!" I bang on the door, pounding on it. "Damn it, damn it, damn it!" I pound until my hand bleeds, praying that somehow, someone will hear me.
