Beatrix isn't sure when the last time she ate but she imagined it was a long time because she couldn't stop eating. The Vikings didn't care how plates the teenagers emptied, they brought more and more for them. Beatrix didn't ask what it was all she did was shove it in her mouth. This is also the first time she has drank beer. She noted the sour taste but drank more.
She stopped at her tenth chicken leg to look around. Bast is eating the deserts with ease. Jian looked at the meats with an odd face but took small bites. Anubis is eating away while the elder woman babies him with smiles and pinching his cheeks. Beatrix smiled by the sight. Benjamin is sitting next to the tribe chief, looking awkward, but he showed them his missing right arm.
Beatrix took another bite from her chicken leg. A girl sat across from her. Her long brown hair is split into two braids, a long green dress with furs around her. She smiled at Beatrix. Beatrix couldn't help but think of Camilla. In some way, this girl looks so much like Camilla.
She put down her food. Finally, filling full.
"Please, Lady Syn, continue to eat. Do not allow me to spoil your dinner." The young girl said.
Beatrix shook her head, "I'm fine."
Ever since they got to the town, they called Beatrix: Syn. She doesn't understand why but didn't fight back. They are too tired to fight back against the Vikings. From what Beatrix can gather, Syn is the goddess of defensive refusal. She doesn't know what that means but when Beatrix says no, the Vikings stood back. Not moving a single inch.
"What is your name?" Beatrix asked.
The girl smiled, "Brynhild."
Beatrix nodded. She got her hopes up for nothing. A part of her wished that it would have been Camilla or something around it. Instead, it's a name that Beatrix can't and will never be an pronounce. Beatrix sighed as she looked down at her plate.
"Does my name displease you, Lady Syn?" Brynhild asked.
Yes.
"No," Beatrix lied.
"Then why is there a frown on your face, my Lady?"
Beatrix didn't answer.
"Has someone dishonored you, Lady Syn? Shall I fetch the chief?"
"No." Beatrix said as she reached out to grab the girl. "Don't leave me, Camilla."
"M-my Lady." Brynhild stammered.
Beatrix took her hand off with a quick sorry. She smiled at the brunette girl, picking up her chicken leg and began to eat. She wanted to stuff her cheeks until she couldn't talk anymore. She looked around again catching Benjamin's worried eyes. He started to get up but the Viking leader pulled him down again.
"Who is this Camilla? Is she a sister? Fallen warrior?" Brynhild asked.
Beatrix shook her head again, "She was my best friend."
"Was?"
"Yeah, was. Meaning not anymore. I done a terrible thing to her. I . . . I betrayed her." Beatrix whispered.
"How? You are Lady Syn. You cannot betray anyone. We lowly humans can betray someone not the gods." Brynhild said, confused.
"I almost kissed someone else. Camilla is . . . was my girlfriend. But I was getting to close with another girl. That's how I betrayed her."
Brynhild giggled, "Surely Camilla must have known your affections would lie elsewhere."
"Huh?"
"Well, Lady Syn, everyone here has a soulmate. On Midgard I mean. Camilla is simply meant for someone else, she could never be truly yours, Lady Syn." Brynhild said with a frown. "Excuse my bluntness."
