An 'Old Friend'

CHAPTER 15: The Artifact

HUNTER

Sam, my friends, Maurice (with some of his guys), Carrie and I were all sitting around in the living room going over ideas in how we were going to get Bessie back. 

"You know that Skullz and his men out number all of us by a lot, right?" Maurice mentions. 

"Yeah, I realize that but he has our daughter and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get her back and to end this bullshit once and for all." I tell him. 

He rolls his eyes while one of my guys says something. 

"So what do you have in mind?" The guy asks. 

I look over at Sam and then back at everyone else. 

"The only person that knows Skullz's weaknesses and that can help us get him, is Sam." 

Sam gives me a look of both surprise along with a scowl. 

"No." She says. 

"There is no other way." I tell her. 

"Wait, how can she help? He hates her the same amount that he hates all of us." Maurice says. 

"Not necessarily." I reply before looking back at her and nodding my head at her to let her know that she will be doing this because she knows this is the only way. She then rolls her eyes shakes her head. 

"I do know what Skullz would like more than anything and that could possibly work." Sam begins to explain. "I used to date him for a couple of years right after high school and I got to see and find out several things about him. I know that the one thing he wants is my cousin Maurice but, there's something even more he would want." She stops herself as she looks at Maurice, Carrie and then  me before finishing. "He wants a particular rare artifact that my uncle had. 

"Don't." Maurice shakes his head while not just looking pissed off at her but also looking as though he feels hurt?

"We have to." She begins to tell Maurice. "We both know that that's what he wants the most and that you do owe him that." 

"No. It was my father's and just because you didn't like him doesn't mean that I have to give up the most valuable thing in the world that my father happened to own. There is NO way that I am giving it up to him." He says with distaste. 

"Maurice, I'm warning you." She says. 

He shakes his head again in disapproval with her idea and looks out the window. 

"So what's going on exactly?" Carrie asked feeling confused. 

"We're going to save your daughter and make sure that we never have to worry about the past ever catching up to either one of us." Sam assures her. 

"Okay. Well, where is the artifact?" I ask. 

Sam looks over at Maurice again except he's looking down at his lap as she tells us. 

"It's in a secret room at the mansion. We can go over now and then arrange to meet up later with Skullz." She suggests. 

"Okay then, let's go." Carrie says while standing up. 

"Hold on." I tell her as I stand up also and gently take her hand. 

"No. We aren't doing this." Maurice protests as he stands up and looks at us all and then back at Sam. 

"You only have two choices, you're either with us or not. But I will warn you that if you are against us, you know what will happen." She warns him. 

Again, I'm still not sure in how or even why he is afraid of her and still, she hasn't told me why. 

"I fucking hate you." He says through clenched teeth and squeezing his hands into fists. 

"Now, as for the rest of you, get ready. Because after we get the artifact, you will all need to be ready to come meet with us to help us take this asshole down." 

"Hell yeah!" Several of the guys say in unison. 

"Alright. You'll all get a text from me shortly with an address and when you guys do show up to the place, I want you all to be prepared for a shootout. Because I know that he will not go down without a fight, including his men. So let's get this over with and take care of this asshole once and for all." I smirk at them and everyone looks to be excited. 

"Okay guys, get ready." Sam says while me, Carrie, her, Maurice and a couple of his men follow us over to his mansion to get the artifact.  

I have seen the artifact before and I do know that it's rare and practically one of a kind and is said to help make the owner become very powerful and rich. At least that's the legend behind it. Personally, I don't believe in things like that. 

Then again, if this is what's going to get my daughter back, then I will give it to him and if Maurice tries to stop us, I will not hesitate to kill him or give him to Skullz.
