CHAPTER 22: I'm Taking Over

Bessie and I both were standing as we were held tightly by Skullz's men still as we looked at Hunter and Maurice. 

Hunter looked at Bessie and then me and gave me a look that said he was sorry. 

I have been trying to keep myself together and be strong in front of Bessie at least but, I feel like falling apart as I see Hunter on his knees looking defeated, which I have never seen him like that before. 

No, this wasn't how we were going to let our lives end. Hunter and I are meant to grow old with each other while our grand kids are coming over and playing. No, this is NOT the way this ends. We have been through too much bullshit to have this end this way. 

Then the next thing I hear are two gunshots going off and one of them was near me and as I feel the guy holding my arm letting go and falling down to the ground, the other shot was her shooting the man holding onto Bessie's arm as well.  I look over and see Sam as she's holding her side and then as more gunfire begins, Sam pulls both me and Bessie by the arm off to the side and quickly cuts our ties. 

"I thought you were dead." I tell her. 

"Not a chance." She smiles weakly. 

"Please, take Bessie to the car and you both stay there and I'm gonna get your cousin and Hunter." I tell her. 

She nods her head before I look at Bessie. 

"Now you be a brave girl okay? You need to take care of your aunt Sam." I tell Bessie. 

She nods her head. 

"Okay mommy." She replies and gives me a huge hug. 

Sam then takes her hand and they start to leave. Which just the sight of leaving and not knowing if Hunter and I will survive from this. 

I take the gun that Sam handed to me before taking Bessie's hand and I take in a deep breath and let it out as I turn the corner and begin shooting at anyone that isn't Maurice or Hunter. 

It was hard at first to determine who was who from the ducking and preventing from being shot at to hiding behind things. 

Then while leaning back on the floor against the couch and trying to catch my breath, I sudden;y see someone fall over the couch next to me. 

I wasn't sure in who it was at first and was instantly relieved when I saw it was Hunter. We hugged each other real quick and he kissed me then took the gun from my hand and handed me another one that he had while he cocked the extra one he had as well. 

"Just stay next to me." He tells me.

"Okay." I nod. 

We both get up, still ducking as he grabs my hand and then we start running to the other side of the room and hide behind another tall and big piece of furniture and he starts shooting then ducks down again next to me. 

"Where'd you get that first gun by the way?" He asks me.

"Sam." I replied. 

"She's alive?" 

"Yeah. She has Bessie right now." I tell him. 

"Good." He nods. 

"Oh Hunter?!" We both hear Skullz call out after the gunfire seems to have seized. 

"Stay here." Hunter tells me quietly before standing up and pointing his gun at Skullz. 

"There you are." He smiles as he is pointing a gun to Maurice's temple. 

"I'm gonna end this right now." I hear Hunter tell Skullz before trying to fire and nothing happening. Shit, he's empty. 

We hear Skullz begin to laugh in a dark manner and I suddenly hear a gun go off and see Hunter fall back onto the floor. 

I couldn't help but scream out in horror. 

"NOOOO!!!!!!!!" I quickly crawl to him and begin hearing a couple of more gunshots go off and then can hear Maurice and Skullz both fighting each other. 

Something out of nowhere started to come over me and I grabbed the gun pissed off, hurt and wanting to end this bullshit myself. 

So I got up and waited until I had a clear shot and that's when I fired at Skullz's head.
