HUNTER
Throughout the entire car ride back to the house, I felt bad after hearing what Sam had mentioned that I couldn't stand it. So after pulling into the driveway, I asked for Carrie to go ahead and head into the house while Sam and I stayed behind to talk.
"I don't want to talk about it." Sam right off the bat says with her arms still crossed over her chest as she continues looking out the window frustrated and fighting back tears.
"I get that and I know we weren't always the best of friends but, I want you to know that I'm here for you if you ever want to talk." I assure her.
She remains silent and I wait for a moment before turning back around and was about to open up my car door to get out but I stopped and turned back to look at her as I heard her begin to talk.
"I was seven years old when it started. My parents thought it was a good idea to stay with my uncle and cousin for a while so they could go on vacation. Which they did a lot." She begins. "Then one day, my uncle came home drunk and seemed to be upset about something. Maurice and I were playing a game in his room and the next thing I knew, I was being hit out of nowhere from my uncle. For years Maurice tried to convince me that I needed to stay out of his way. Then after my parents turned his house into my permanent place to live until I was eighteen and was left in his care. Then I met Skullz. I was sixteen, had no money, was fed up with all the bullshit that happened, including Maurice always blaming me and telling me it was always my fault. So Skullz helped me get away from all of it. I hadn't cared either what he did. In fact, I believed him when he said he was in construction." She chuckles.
"The good construction excuse." I smile at her.
"Exactly." She says. "It wasn't too long after that when he started to beat me and cheated on me and threatened to kill me and everyone I loved if I ever left him. So I did the only thing I thought at the time I could do, I joined my cousin's gang and just finally surrendered to the idea that this was the only life I could have. Surprisingly, Skullz was a lot worse with the abuse than my uncle ever was. And Maurice and I agreed to just be working with each other for his dad, nothing more."
"But why is he afraid of you?" I ask.
She lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding in before replying.
"Because a few months before he tried to be in your gang, he had done a job for my uncle and messed up really bad. Bad enough so that my uncle was willing to kill him. The artifact we took tonight, that's what Maurice had taken from his dad and tried to sell to one of his enemies. For some reason, I covered for him. I took the beatings and that's also the same day I left but before I did, Maurice told me a couple of things. One, that he owed me and the other, was that he left Skullz to get get caught and be tortured by his dad and that he's been terrified of ever being found by Skullz and doing the same thing his dad did to Skullz."
"Oh my god." I say from under my breath while looking over her shoulder through my back window.
"I know, right?" She says as she chuckles and wipes her tears away.
"No. We have a visitor." I say while taking out my gun and cocking it real quick as she does the same right after.
We both get out of the car and see a few other cars pull up to the driveway and then I hear Carrie screaming as well as some gunfire going off in the house and then I see Carrie being pulled by her arm with one of Skullz's guys holding a gun up to her head.
I try to run up to her and before I could, I'm stopped after hearing Skullz's voice coming from behind.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." He smirks. "I suggest you both drop your weapons." He tells both me and Sam.
Although as he walks up to Sam closer, he smiles at her.
"We've got what you want." I yell out to him.
He looks at me and smiles before looking back at Sam.
"Not everything. Have you missed me?" He asks Sam.
She spits in his face.
"Fuck you!" She tells him.
He just chuckles and then punches her hard knocking her to the ground and then having one of his men pick her up and take both her and Carrie towards one of their cars while me and Skullz glare at each other.
"What the fuck?! Take the damn artifact and let them and my daughter go!" I yell at him.
"You don't tell me what to do." He grins. "Besides, I need more collateral before you bring me what I REALLY want. Bring me that and you'll get all three of them back." He says before turning and walking away. Right as I'm about to shoot him, I feel the gun being knocked out of my hand and then something heavy and blunt, knock me out on the back of my head.
