Before proceeding, I felt it necessary to include a disclaimer of sorts, as this particular collection of poems deals with some rather dark and sensitive material. It is important to note that I wrote Cyanide Lakes when struggling with major depressive disorder, anxiety, bulimia, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The topics discussed reflect my thoughts at the time and therefore, as mentioned above, depict incredibly sensitive material.
Additionally, please note that this particular collection was constructed while I was still rather young. I began Cyanide Lakes at the age of thirteen and concluded it at the age of seventeen. I am now approaching twenty-one and write in a much different manner. Think of this collection not as a reflection of my current self, but rather a timepiece.
A trigger warning is active for the following: self-harm, suicidal thoughts, abuse, and brief depictions of graphic violence. Please read at your own discretion. The very last thing I wish to do is upset or trigger anyone in any way.
If you are currently struggling with depression or thoughts of suicide, please reach out to someone. you are never alone. Talk to someone you trust, be it a family member, friend, significant other, etc. You are also free to message me if you'd like. My intention of publishing such vulnerable thoughts online was not only for the sake of my own expression — of a need to verbalise and project my voice somewhere — but also to ensure others, who felt much like I did at the time, that they were not alone. All these years later, I have kept this collection online for that very reason.
