I woke up with my face pressed to the floor and Tal staring down at me in both curiosity and concern.
"What happened?" I asked, sitting up and feeling a slight pain in my ankle despite the boot.
"I think you fell off the couch." Tal responded, taking my hand and trying to help me back up onto the couch.
"Oh. I don't remember falling."
"That's probably because it only happened a few seconds ago. You woke up almost an instant after you hit the floor." I suddenly felt a flash of pain shoot up my leg. I leaned over and grabbed at the boot.
"OUCH!" I shouted as the pain got even worse.
"What's wrong?" Tal asked.
"My ankle."
"How bad? On a scale from 1 to 10, ten being it hurts the worst."
"I would say about an 8."
"That's pretty high on the scale."
"Probably because the doctor told me to take Tylenol with it, but I couldn't because the Cooper's don't own any and they didn't want to buy any for me. They said it wasn't allowed in the house."
"That's crap. Here, I have some in my suit case. I figured it would come in handy at some point." He rushed over to his suit case and took out a bottle of Tylenol, walking over to the mini fridge and grabbing a water bottle on his way back over to where I was sitting on the couch. He handed me the water and a pill.
"Just put the pill in your mouth and take a drink of water. Don't chew it, just swallow it whole." Tal told me. I did as he instructed.
"How did you know I didn't know how to take it?"
"You said that the Cooper's basically banned Tylenol from their house, so I figured you wouldn't know how to take it. By the way, it will take about 20 minutes before the Tylenol starts to make some of the pain go away."
"Thanks." I said, leaning back into the couch and taking another drink from the water just to make sure that the pill went all the way down.
"So, what do we do now?" Tal said, sitting in the same spot on the couch as he had the night before.
"How about we un-pack? We'll probably be here for a while so we might as well get things situated. Besides, I've been in these clothes for a very long time now."
"Why don't we wait to do that until your ankle feels better to unpack?"
"Ok. I'll change quickly, then how about we watch another movie?"
"Sounds great. By the way, when do you get to take the boot off?" Tal asked, walking over to his suit case to grab another movie.
"I get it taken off in about 3 days. It wasn't fractured so they only put the boot on for a little bit to make sure it didn't stay twisted and to ease off some of the pain."
"Well, we'll have to just take it off ourselves or find a local doctor who can do what they would have done back home."
"I say we find a doctor just to be safe and make sure it's ok to take it off." I rushed into the room towards my suitcase so I wouldn't miss any of the movie. I changed into this:
And braided my hair in a french braid going down my back. I walked back into the living room are just as Tal was about to hit play on the main menu.
Why don't you ever tell me the name of the movies?" I asked him, curling up into a ball on the couch as much as I could considering the boot.
"No. Then you would be able to tell all your friends how I showed you the worst movies and they might get offended at what movies they were." I looked down at my hands, shyly twiddling my fingers. I felt him refocus his gaze on me.
"What's wrong?" He asked, scooting a little bit closer to me, placing his hand on my arm.
"I don't have any friends." I whispered, tears spilling down my cheeks.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know. If I would have known, I would have done something about it." He placed his hand under my chin and forced me to look at him. He seemed as if he was searching my eyes for something before he leaned down and kissed my tears away. I parted my lips in surprise, going still as ice. He pulled away and looked into my eyes again like he wanted to get lost in them forever.
"I never wanted to hurt you. It was the only way to keep you safe from her." He said quietly. I could barely hear him over the movie, almost like he didn't want to be heard or he didn't want to startle me even more.
"I know." I responded. I understood everything now that I had heard of the truth from both him and Andy. Andy.
"Andy." I said, making him scrunch his eyes in confusion.
"What about Andy?"
"He was expecting me to be at school yesterday. I wonder if he's worried. Will Allison hurt him?"
"Why do you care? He's the one who hurt your ankle."
"People change and can be forgiven. He was my friend when I didn't have any for the last few days."
"I told him where we were going. He's not worried. He actually suggested I take you some place safe. He helped me find this place."
"I was right."
"About what?"
"That some people can change and be forgiven."
"What do you mean?"
"Tal, I forgive you. For everything. I understand." I leaned into him and gently placed my lips on his. He froze for a second before kissing me back. I pulled away and we looked at each other for what seemed like forever before the TV let out a loud clashing noise. We both whipped our heads towards the TV to realize that the movie had started already.
"Here, I'll rewind it so you can watch the whole thing." Tal said, rewinding the movie so it was starting at the beginning. Instead of curling up in my corner of the couch again though, I crawled over to Tal's side and snuggled into his chest..my home for the evening. He froze again slightly, but then he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer, kissing the top of my head gently.
I didn't know why I was suddenly so brave, or why I had even kissed Tal. Maybe I had more feelings for him than I was willing to admit...
To be continued.....
