//I wrote the rough draft of this chapter AGES ago. So much fun to finally turn it into a reality for this here novel. If you enjoyed it, don't hesitate to leave a like or comment! I'd love to hear from y'all. :) //
A little over a week later, we went out again. It was peculiarly warm for the middle of December. The meteorologists had been wrong, as it had not yet snowed. Maybe next week, they said. Possibly a white Christmas, they said. I would believe it when pigs flew. New York weather was notoriously unpredictable, and I had stopped trusting the meteorologists' forecasts a long time ago. There was one time I went to work, expecting it to be deathly cold, only to discover I had accidentally had my work phone somehow set to Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. It was definitely not two degrees outside. That had been embarrassing for multiple reasons. Especially when I had to get someone else to reset my phone's settings to Fahrenheit for me. I had never forgotten that, and it was a mistake I would not make again. Ever again. No more trusting the phone or the meteorologists.
Although there had not been snow, it had been drizzly the last few days. I liked rain more than drizzle, as the mist always just made me sick with the sniffles. That was like the worst kind of sickness in my book. Not well enough to get around but not miserable enough to take off. Not that I would anyway, I would get bored. Joe, though, often turned into a big baby when he got the smallest hint of a cold. Pathetic. Hopefully he was staying indoors with this weather; Katherine probably would not tolerate his "I'm so sick, I could die" antics while she was pregnant. I was just waiting for her phone call of "Come take Joe, he thinks he's dying. If he keeps this up, he will be." I could not help but smile just thinking about it.
My phone rang with a Wicked ringtone. Speaking of the devil...
"Kat?"
"Do you think the hospital would miss some sedative?"
"Kat..."
"I just want to put Joe to sleep for...a few days, that's all."
"What's he doing now?"
"Being over-dramatic."
I giggled.
"He's got a cold."
"Oh, dear."
"I've told him to go take a nap somewhere, but he insists he has to look after me."
"How's that working out for him?"
"He's moaning and groaning like a wounded antelope."
I snorted.
"I don't like him right now," she said.
"Tell him if he stays around, you might catch his cold."
There was a pause as she considered what I said. "Now there's an idea."
"It'll probably work."
"I'm going to try it."
I smiled.
"Hey, what are you up to tonight?" Kat asked.
"Thaddeus and I are going to a concert."
"Thaddeus. A concert? Really?"
"That was my response when he said he'd go. It's all music from John Williams. So Jurassic Park, ET, Star Wars, Harry Potter, all that stuff. I've had these tickets for ages."
"And you didn't think to invite me?"
"Sorry," I chuckled.
"After I invited you to see the Philharmonic."
