sean and lisa soon introduce the twins, making my nerves skyrocket as ethan begins to shake my dad's hand.

they literally have no idea that i've already met, hung out with, and been to these people's house. hell, i'm dating the one standing next to me, and have yet to inform them about it.

after multiple hand shakes and "how are you's", we take our seats around the table. i take my seat again in the back, next to my mom. ethan immediately takes the seat next to me, not taking me by surprise. i look back to him slightly, trying not to make anything obvious. his face still holds a smirk, but i see right through him, and into the nerves that he's holding.

a new conversation starts as it is focused mostly between the four parents. it felt as if one side of the table was completely separated from the other. the twins and i constantly kept shooting looks, and mouthing different things.

"what the fuck is going on." grayson mouths, looking towards me.

i shrug my shoulders, looking to ethan, unable to say anything else since my thoughts were cut off by my dad.

he puts his hands on his chin out of curiosity, "ethan, grayson. tell me about yourselves, are you two eve's age?" he questions.

"yes, 18." grayson responds, nodding his head with a smile.

"well you must go to the same school if you guys live in town." my mom smiles too, seeming as if she was hopeful that we knew each other.

"i think i've seen eve around school a few times." ethan squints his eyes slightly, turning his head towards me.

his tongue swipes across his lips, waiting for my answer.

"y-yeah. pretty sure i have classes with them." i stutter, hating myself for being so nervous due to ethan's glare.

he just looks really fucking good in suits.

"you know, you boys just look awfully familiar. i must've seen you some time other than tonight." my mom insists, making my heart drop. the fair, she remembers them from the fair. ethan was on my story, that's why she picked me up that night.

the twins seemed to remember too, as they looked at me immediately after my mom got done talking.

"it might've been for a school event, mom. you never know." i try to assure her, desperately not wanting her to remember.

our conversations died down as our food finally arrived. there was talk, but only between our parents yet again. a few minutes into our meal, everyone seemed to be occupied on either eating, or talking about work. ethan took the opportunity to slide his hand onto my knee, slowly dragging it up to my upper thigh. thank god the white table clothes were long. i feel my cheeks become hot as he keeps his hand there.

just when i thought he'd pinch my thigh as a way to tease me, his thumb begins gently stroking it, as if he were attempting to soothe my nerves.

his head perks up to look at me, as his lips curve into a smile. without saying a word, it felt like he was trying to tell me everything will be okay.

my lips curve upwards as i look back down to my plate.
