i felt uneasy for the rest of the night, watching her get more and more drunk. there was nothing i could do but watch, and hope nothing bad happened.

most of us were sitting around the fire, listening to music and just talking. she sat a few people down from me, slurring as her eyes fluttered open and closed.

grayson's elbow came in contact with my arm. "talk." he mouthed.

i swallowed hard as i looked back to her. she took more sips from the cup as she made conversation with the people around her, or at least tried to due to how out of it she was.

i felt a hand on the shoulder, causing both grayson and i to flinch. "we found the cliff." brett smirks, encouraging us to go with them and jump in.

"i'm in." grayson responds immediately, standing up. others begin to volunteer to go with him.

"we'll go." alex offers as she stands up as well, gesturing to her, tyler and blair.

most everyone is standing up and ready to go, except eve. of course, that changes after she groggily realized how she was purposefully being left out.

she slurs, "let me go too!" setting down her cup to stand with everyone else. she stumbles to her feet, grabbing onto people around her for support.

"you're not cliff jumping while you're drunk, eve." alex chuckles, "we'll be back soon."

she sits eve back down, making her pout. everyone here is either going to the cliff, or swimming. the only one by the fire is eve, making my stomach sink that she's staying here alone.

grayson's concerned eyes meet mine, "someone should stay, and keep an eye on her." he blurts to the rest of the group, trying not to make it obvious.

i hesitate and clear my throat, "ill stay."

everyone shrugs it off, making their way into the woods. grayson once again sends me a look, and begins to walk away. i guess talking to her now is my only option, we're the last ones here. my mind races as i begin walking over to her, sitting beside her.

she sighs as she traces things in the dirt with her dainty fingers. barely noticing nor caring about my presence, she continues this for a few seconds. her eyes flutter every once in a while. the embers from the fire fly through the air above us, lighting up her features.

she finally speaks quite clearly, catching me off guard. "you didn't have to stay."

she doesn't even turn her head to look at me. just simply stated what she was thinking.

"i wasn't leaving you here alone." i shake my head as if it were obvious, causing her to finally look at me with those brown eyes that fucked with my heart rate.

"i'm f-fine." she stutters, annoyance laced in her voice. "i want to go."

"you can't jump alone off a 30 foot cliff into water while you're drunk, eve." i state it as an order, not a request. the last thing i need to worry about right now is her getting hurt.

she sighs yet again, curling up to hug her knees. her eyes stare at the fire for a few seconds. "what if i wasn't alone? then would you let me go?" she looks back to me, challenging my last statement.
