i am groot - groot

"Attention!" a familiar voice called into the microphone. "Check, 1, 2, 3."

You peeled yourself away from the conversation with Natasha to pay attention to a man you've looked up to for a while: Tony Stark. Someone from backstage gave him a thumbs up, and Stark went on with his speech.

"Thank you all for coming to this wonderous press conference to introduce some new members of the Avengers Initiative to world- er- galaxy," he began uncertainly. "These people- no- beings and their work, is unparalleled to us, original Avengers, and the work we have done here on Earth. They helped us take down who we all know as the Mad Titan, Thanos.

"First to be introduced, is [Y/N]!" Tony smiled at you and waved you on stage. "Come on up."

You smiled and stood, making your way to the stage. Tony wasn't going to say how they found you, of course, because it wasn't during what people call "Infinity War." It's kind of embarrassing actually. Your power is the ability to shapeshift into absolutely anything you desire. One day someone made you mad in New York so you turned into a T-Rex and ate them. Luckily, the Avengers were nearby to save your ass.

"Hi, everyone-" you spoke into the mic, jumping a bit from hearing your voice projected so loud. "I'm [Y/N], obviously, and all I would like to say is I'm honored to be apart of such a team of hard-working, and strong individuals."

You stepped away from the platform and behind it, so Tony can speak again. People cheered and you nodded and waved.

"Our next group, we have met during 'Infinity War,'" Tony used his fingers as air quotes. "They should be here soon, but they're not really from around here. I told them when to come based on our orbit relative to the sun, so it could be a while."

Some of the crowd laughed, but seemed utterly confused. What seemed like a fireball, came crashing down towards the compound's backyard. People began to scream, but Tony reassured them it was the guests.

"Please welcome, the Guardians of the Galaxy," Tony beamed, clapping and stepping aside off the platform.

Out of the spaceship you deemed was cool, came a man, a green woman, a gray man, and...a raccoon and... a tree? A smile came over your face as you greeted the man and woman, who were Star-Lord and Gamora.

"Star-Lord is your real name?" you asked him with a chuckle.

"Nah, it's Peter Quill," he answered with a smirked before whispering something in your ear. "I just like to sound cool."

Peter Quill sounded familiar, you saw it on a milk carton when your family visited Missouri. You didn't want to ask, though, because you didn't know how to react. But, when the raccoon and tree walked up to you, you raised a brow and smiled.

"Rocket," the raccoon greeted you with a paw extended. "Yes, I can talk. That's Groot." He pointed a thumb to the tree behind him.

You nodded, suprised he can talk, but what rattled you even more is when Groot said something!?

"I am Groot."

"I am [Y/N]."

"I am Groot."

"You said that already?"

"Those are the only three words in his vocabulary," Rocket interjected. "But he said he thinks your cool."

"Thanks man," you looked to Groot, who smiled and offered you M&Ms.

"I am Groot."

"Sure, I'll have some."

[ 2 HOURS LATER ]

"Did you seriously have to do that?" you screeched as Yoshi waved his arms in the air. "I was in first for so long!"

"I am Groot?"

"Shut up. No you're not."
