[ Peter's POV ]
She tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear, smiling ear to ear, with the sun shining on her face. That damn smile. It gets me everytime. Her eyes flicked to meet mine, and I felt my legs become jelly. Suddenly, her face fell.
"Peter?" she asked worriedly, taking a step toward me. "Are you okay? You look like you just saw a ghost."
I nodded weakly, and offered a small smile. As usual, she wasn't buying it. Her hand touched my arm and I didn't flinch. Instead, I leaned into her touch, relaxing a bit. Dozens of thoughts bounced around in my mind. All of them were about her.
I couldn't let myself do this. I don't deserve her. She can't be put in any danger. I don't want to. I can't. [Y/N] knew the dangers. I tell her everything.
My brain and my heart battled each other over what was right, and what I wanted. Eventually, after a few moments, my heart stood victorious.
When I looked [Y/N] in the eyes, my hand reached for hers. My mouth opened, then closed after a moment.
"I love you," I blurted after I forced myself to speak. "I don't-"
She silenced me by putting her finger to my lips. The corners of her lips lifted into a smile.
"I am aware of the danger, Pete," she assured. "I love you too."
My gaze shifted to look at the lake that was just inches away. The setting sun shone in our faces, and I squinted my eyes as it reflected off the water. Her gaze followed mine, but then mine changed to look at her. [Y/N] looked perfect. She always does. My arm snaked around her waist and I planted a kiss on top of her head.
I love her, and I don't want to.
