Claude and Shanda made their way to the carriage while Alois continued sleep. Claude had given Hannah, the maid, specific instructions to keep Alois busy until his return. He hoped she would be able to accomplish this task and if not then he would deal with Alois upon their return. Claude opened the carriage door for Shanda and taking her hand she stepped in and he stepped in afterwards. He sat next to her and relaxingly placed her hand in his. She flashed a smile at him when she saw his amber eyes burn like embers, "Claude where are we going?" she asked as the carriage heaved forward. "That my lady is a surprise," he said with a wink. She marveled at his expression as it lingered on hers, "Can I ask one question?" He adjusted his glasses, "Yes, if I may ask one of my own?" "Yes, that is acceptable. So my dear Claude, why did you really save me?"

She waited and watched for his voice to fill the carriage, but he did not speak until she had just about given up and then, "I strive above most things to be honest about who I am, what my intentions are, and why I do the things that I do. To that end, I saw you one morning at the house you were kept. I had reason to visit that home and when I realized what your purpose was there I convinced Alois that you were important and that saving you from your current situation so that your past could be useful was in his best interests. I put these thoughts in his mind because you intrigued me and I am not easily intrigued." She wanted to be shocked but in her heart she knew that Alois was not that strategic or empathetic to remove a person from that type of life, "I imagined that was the case although I did not know particulars. With that in mind, thank you again Claude. I am grateful, ever so grateful" as she intertwined her fingers with his. He lifted her hand to his lips and gently kissed the top of it and took in a deep breathe before setting their intertwined hands at their sides once more, "Now my turn. Do you remember a girl named Sara from the night you were sold?" She had only thought of that night for years and she remembered Sara, she had never gotten her last name but she was not sure how much that mattered. Sara was sold same as her and who knows what became of her. She hoped she was alive and still not in the confines of enslavement, "Yes, I remember her but I have not seen her since. She was sold before I was and when we were thrown in the cell together she didn't speak much but neither did I. We were both frightened and we were young. She was strong though I could tell, she only cried for a moment but then was filled with an anger and hatred for the suffering not only she was suffering but for those around her. That seemed to bother her more than anything." 'That is quite interesting" as Claude's face shown this had been exactly the answer he was hoping for. "Why do ask?" Shanda inquired. He turned to look at her with a glimmer in his eyes, "That is two questions. You will have to pay for this one." She could see the grin forming on his lips, "I will gladly pay for an answer." "I ask for a simple reason, it was her search for you that caused me to find you." Her eyes pierced back tears, even after all this time she kept her promise even if it was unbeknownst to her, Shanda whispered, "She kept her promise." Claude wiped away her tears and pulled her closer, "Promise?" "Yes, all those years ago she promised me one day that I would be free again" she answered. Claude pulled her face to his and spoke closely and quietly, "I make you a promise now, you will see her again." Shanda believed every word he spoke and pressed her lips against his. Her kiss was full of desperate emotion and Claude enjoyed this side of her soul as well.

Claude only broke their kiss when the carriage stopped, "We are here and now you will pay for the second question." Shanda saw that glimmer in his eyes again, "Yes I am ready. Where are we?" He did not speak he only grinned opening the carriage door and leaded her out. When Shanda stepped out she felt the cool breeze on her cheeks and when she looked up she saw trees reaching high into the sky. She reached out for Claude and while hugging him gave him a kiss on the cheek. Claude looked at her, "Are you ready?" She could see how she was to pay, winking, "Yes." Shanda shot into the trees running across the wet grass carpeting the floor in green. She looked to her side and saw Claude catching up. He was watching her with a delicious smile on his lips, she continued to run. Her well kept hair became a wave of midnight waving in the sun, her dress flailing in the wind is it tried to keep up with her, "Catch me if you can Claude." She felt a gust of wind come in from behind her and a hand slide across her back, she turned and looked knowing it was him but not seeing him. She continued to run but she was tiring but didn't want to make it such an easy win for Claude. She saw a small clearing up ahead and headed for it. She felt another slide of his hand when she turned this time though he was there, he took her hand and swung her into his arms and ran straight into the tall grass of the clearing. In the clearing the breeze was cooler and he laid her in the tall grass and laid next to her. She was out of breathe and beautiful as he watched her chest rise and fall. She slipped her arm around his chest and curling up she whispered, ".. you caught me." He held her close kissing her forehead as she rested.

Shanda awoke as the carriage pulled up to Trancy Manor. Claude noticing she had woken held two of his fingers up to his lips making it clear she needed to be very quiet. She nodded her head and after he picked her up carrying her bridle style through the manor and into her room. While Claude laid her on her bed, "My lady I wish nothing more than to join you tonight but I fear that Alois has made quite a mess in my absence." Shanda yearned for him but knew that he would be her's soon, "I am yours as you are mine. Do what you must, I am not going anywhere."
