Surprises

The following week at Phantomhive Manor ...

The sun had begun to rise and I could feel the warmth envelop me. I stretched and ran my hand where Sebastian was lying, but my hand fell on an empty space. My eyes abruptly and suddenly opened at his absence, on the pillow was a note from Sebastian. I read it through still awakening eyes, "My love, my kitten I did not wish to wake you and even more so did not wish to leave you but a matter has arisen with one of Ciels properties and it became necessary to visit the property and set construction back on track. I instructed everyone to let you sleep even though I imagine you woke up with the sun. I should be returning this evening or the following. I will miss you immensely. I left you a small surprise on your nightstand, I hope to enjoy it with you upon my return. Take care my love. Love, your Butler, Sebastian." I reread the letter falling even further in love with him. Then my eyes wandered to the red box that sat on my nightstand. The red box was wrapped with a perfect black satin bow, I had not received a gift in years and I was filled with emotions as I turned and shook the box slightly. I held it for a few more moments and then curiosity caused me to grab one end of the bow and pull. The ribbon fell to my lap and I lifted the lid. I reached in and slowly pulled out the contents. I laid my gifts on the bed and a blush of red spread across my cheeks. On the bed lay the most beautiful necklace I had ever laid my eyes on, the chain was interlaced with black velvet and the pendent was a sparkling raven black stone with one inlay of rubies. Next to it lay a black lace nightie that was absolutely ravishing, I ran my fingers over the lace and snickered at his comment in his letter about enjoying the gifts when he got back. "I assure you my Butler you will" as I put both items back in the box along with his note, placing both the box and satin black ribbon on the nightstand.

By the time I got cleaned up and dressed I could hear everyone busying themselves around the manor. I reached the kitchen and made some tea and a very simple breakfast for everyone. They were all outside as it had not snowed for a few days and the sky was clear and crisp. I brought the tea tray and breakfast out to them and they as always were so grateful. When Tanaka slipped out of his tea induced state I inquired, "Do you know where Ciel and Sebastian had to go?" Tanaka explained that Ciel had bought a property and construction was being done but the construction had stopped due to circumstances that required Ciel to travel there without delay. "Oh I see, do you think they will be returning this evening or is it more likely to be tomorrow?" I asked quickly as he could switch slip into his tea induced state without warning. "I feel it is more likely to be tomorrow for the property is a ways a way." "Thank you Tanaka," I said smiling at him. I felt so lucky to have been invited to be a part of this family. As I listened to Mey-Rin,  Bardroy, Finny and even Tanaka talk about everything and nothing; I got it into my head to surprise them all. It was a perfect time too, for surprising Sebastian would not be as simple if he were here. Now I just had to figure out what to do. 'Miss Sara, we want to do something special for our Lord's and Sebastian's return,  yes we do!" Mey-Rin stated. "I think that is a spectacular idea! What do you all have in mind?" I asked. The ideas came from everyone except Tanaka who was happily drinking his tea. After a few moments we agreed on a plan that would be ready by tonight and would still work out if they returned tomorrow. After clearing tea cups and plates we each set out to do our part. We were all so excited, yet I felt a foreboding feeling in my heart and consciousness. I truly hoped that Sebastian and Ciel were ok and that their return would be speedy.
