That afternoon at Trancy Manor ...
Shanda had spent most of her day in the garden and in the study reading folklore about Grim Reapers. It didn't frighten her too much, she moreso wondered what her place would be in that world. She would not have to wait much longer to find that out though as the sun reached high in the sky. Claude had agreed to meet her at the stables at 1:30 that afternoon and to help advise Peggy and her family of the impending meeting. Shanda began her walk to the stables when she heard a voice from nearby, "I have every right to be in the garden right now! Claude do you think this rose looks good on me?!" Shanda immediately ran towards the stables as quickly as possible not only for the fact of avoiding Alois but to safeguard the lovely family hidden on the grounds. If lunch had been any indication Alois was being especially cruel and psychopathic today. He teased the maid, Hannah, ruthlessly and Claude had eventually had to stop him from injuring her. Alois had made it a point to highlight Shanda's quietness to which she carefully responded that she did not mean to offend, quietness was in her nature. Claude quickly stepped in, as well, drawing Alois attention away from Shanda.
Shanda slowed down when she saw the stables in view and she noticed that Nichole and Peggy were attending to the horses. Nichole noticed Shanda first and greeted her with a hello and a lovely bunch of flowers. Shanda thought about how this world could deal a heavy hand but seeing her smile there was always hope and a reason to keep going. Peggy said, "Hi Shanda. How have you been?" "I've been doing good. Thank you, how have you all been?" Shanda asked in return. Peggy looked at her daughter with pride, "We are doing very well, thank you. Necromancer has missed you." Shanda walked toward Necromancer and he beat his feet and neighed his hello. Shanda began to pet him along his face and nose, "How are you Necromancer? I've missed you too." Shanda was amazed at how much the horse had seemed to miss her. Peggy asked, "Will you be taking him out for a run today?" Shanda tried not to let her expression change when she answered, "Not at the moment, no. Claude is on his way very soon." Peggy noticed a small change in Shanda's demeanor but did not push the issue "Ok, that is alright. Necromancer is just happy to see you."
A few moments later Claude arrived at the stables and after a short greeting, he explained in general terms what kind of meeting was taking place. Shanda watched as Peggy did not even bat an eyelid at the situation, she only looked at Shanda and smiled adding, "Everything will be ok." Shanda didn't know why those words hit her so deeply but she felt reassured by those few words. Peggy quickly told Nichole and after a brief goodbye they were gone. Claude looked at Shanda, "Remember what I told you" as he pulled her close kissing her reassuringly. Claude heard a noise and pulled away placing Shanda at his side, "He's here." Shanda watched as he was walking towards them, "Hello. I did not really expect a call from either of you." Claude snidely replied, "Ard why is that?" "I do not have to explain myself to the likes of you for my reasons on anything" he answered then looked at Shanda, "So what would you like to know halfling?" Shanda had a million questions but first, "How am I even a halfling?" "Well that one is fairly simple, your father was a reaper and he married your human mother. I can't believe I'm having to do overtime for questions like this." Claude hearing his remark swept close to William, "Excuse me Reaper?! You will treat her with the utmost respect during this entire conversation!" William using his death scythe pushed his glasses up and shrugged, "Fine." Shanda waited no longer to release the questions she had conjured up to ask. William answered each and every question. Claude watchfully kept an eye on Shanda as she was receiving the barrage of answers.
Shanda learned that her father, a reaper, was killed by an angel and that her mother's death was related to her father's death due to the information she had regarding angels and reapers. Her father never hid who he was from her mother, not even when they were courting. Shanda's father was granted permission to marry her and was able to work from home as they say. The Angel that killed her parents was not known but they were still working to identify the angel responsible. The Reapers Association had done what they could to keep Shanda protected, they knew if she was sold that she would be hidden from the world and thus be safe. Claude had gotten very upset when Shanda asked why they did not help when the situation had become abusive. Williams answer consisted of remarks about her safety from those who would do her mortal harm. Shanda had to grasp onto Claude to keep him away from William. William stood unflinching and continued to tell her that as a halfling she would have access to the Hall of Cinematic Records and could, in fact, reap if she so willed to do so. She would create her own death scythe and recieve a book in which those whose souls needed to be reaped would appear. Shanda was unsure how to take this information, she told William she would have to think on that. William had only nodded his head and asked Shanda, "Do you have any further questions?" "No, I do not think so. Not at the moment" as the information sank deep into her mind. "Well if there is nothing else I will be on my way" he bowed to Shanda and sneered at Claude adding, "You have my number when you decide and if you have any further questions". Shanda nodded at William and William was gone. After taking a deep breathe she looked to Claude, "I am at a loss for words at the moment but I am so thankful for you." Claude pulled her close as Shanda wrapped her arms around him, he held her close hoping she was truly okay when she said, "What should I do?" He kissed her forehead, "You should take some time. Let what you've learned sink in. You have time, we have time and always remember our time is forever no matter what." She smiled as his hands began to travel down her back. She looked at him, "I want to show you something." Hand in hand they walked to the meadow behind the tree line.
When they reached the meadow he took her in his arms picking her up and walking to the middle of the meadow. When they reached the tall grass he placed her down gently onto the soft earth and kissed her full of need. "I want to show you something as well Shanda" as he reached into his pocket. She watched carefully as he got down on one knee and held the little black box in one hand out to her. She slowly took it and opened the box and inside was the most gorgeous ring she had ever seen, a large deep colored emerald sat in the middle of a light gold filigree setting that wrapped around the entirety of the ring. She smiled and he spoke, "I realize you have learned much about your past today and what it could mean for your future. I want to be a part of your future as your husband, as your protector, as your lover, as your friend. I will love you for all time. Will you be my wife?" Shanda dropped to her knees to be face to face with him, "Yes, with all of my heart yes. I love you Claude." He pulled the ring from the box placing it on her finger. Shanda watched as he kissed her hand when she took his face in her hands pulling him to her. Her kiss was full of hope and love as Claude lay her down into the safety of his embrace. In their kisses their souls were exposed completely and tasted. Their intentions in this world and to each other comingled with the moans. As he helped himself to her willing body she felt him thrust deep into her, she clung to him in that afternoon sun knowing that with all their hearts it did not matter what they were, only who they were and who they would be together.
