Building Bricks

'Hey Cassidy, want to help me with the bricks?' Genevieve asked me. It's been two days since being in Ghana and the conditions here are terrible. The kids in hospitals or cleaning up messes on the dirt streets. I feel bad for them. Most of them don't know how to read or write.

'Yeah.' I smiled, dropping my shovel and walking over to a wheel barrel filled with bricks. It must weigh a ton.

Me and Geniveve both grabbed one of the handles to the wheel barrel and with all my strength, I don't know about her, but it was a lot to push. It took us a good ten minutes to get fifteen feet to the constructing school. I was having a lot of fun actually on the trip. Meeting the kids. Building an education centre. Me and Geniveve have became like best friends in the last two days and turns out, she lives in France. She speaks really well English too. Her accent kinda throws me off sometimes but I got use to it.

We were piling on bricks, avoiding other people who were busy doing other things. Andy, the leader of the organisation only sits on his ass all day, pretending to talk to people on the phone.

'Oh my god, this one kid told me the funniest joke and-' Geniveve started before she was cut off by Andy, 'lunch time.' He shouts, before turning away. Is it really already lunch? I felt like I have just started. God, this day went by so fast. Hopefully this week won't go by too fast because I'm really enjoying myself and I have thought about more things than I have ever in my life. I went into detail last night over everything, staying up for hours. Things from the past and things to come. I'm probably going to do the same tonight. But I don't mind. Being in a hotel room with Geniveve and her light snoring. That's how we met actually. Cause we share a hotel room. She's literally the best person to meet. Nicest French person I've met.

'Ill tell you the joke later.' She laugh, placing the last brick she had in her hand on the wall. I nodded, waiting for the joke to come as we headed to one of the vans to go to the city for lunch. Andy just insist that we go to the capital since we are just outside of it. Accura, I believe. It's a nice town. Me and Gen sit by another volunteer, Jamie. He's in his fourties and has actually been to Africa six times. It's pretty amazing what he does. He literally volunteers for everything that involves down here and he is a wealthy man so he can afford to make these trips. This is probably my only time ever making a time like this. But I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. The word enjoy makes me think of coke and I haven't had one since the day before bossing a plane. It's a mess. I have never gone that long without coke and it's terrible. What is living? And it's not c.ommon to have sodas here. But I guess it's a nice change to drink water. I could use the hydration.

'You get it right?' Geniveve asks, referring to the joke one of the kids had told her. I was laughing unconditionally. It was a really funny joke. I'm not gonna repeat it because it was far too long to remember but it was a good laugh. Me and Gen decided to eat at a different restaurant than the other mainly because of Andys loud mouth. And one of his close friends who is a pervert to Gen. She's disgusted by him, also she is in a faithful relationship. But I admire her. She could be one of those girls who can go anywhere and cheat without the guy knowing but she isn't. She's like model beautiful and her blonde silky hair is to die for. Not that I would have blonde hair. I've already had enough colours ending with the blue hair thing. That's only because the 'fans' guessed my middle name which I thought they would never but I should have known.

'I bet we better get back before the van leaves without us. But I'll get today's lunch.' She says, grabbing some money and laying it out in the table.

'Okay, I'll get tomorrow's.' I smile, getting up. The van is only a block or less away. We could get there in two minutes top.

We leave the little restaurant and head down the road. She was telling me about her life over in France. With a town I don't know how to spell of pronounce for that matter, and telling me about Sander, her boyfriend. He works in Paris at a publishing job and makes good money appearently. Lucky him, I need a job. But I get paid for making YouTube videos, so I'm good. Tyler Oakley, JacksGap, and Jenna Marbles are all the same. They get paid as well. So I'm not the only one.
