Being the new girl is tough; I don't know anyone, and school starts in a week. How will I ever survive? I put my pencil down and looked out the window; moving was tough. I had to leave all my horses, my cow, my farm, my best friend, my boyfriend.... He broke up with me just cause my Dad got a job at the Sunshine Stables in San Fransisco. San Fransisco was a far cry from Valentine, Nebraska. I sighed for the umpteenth time.
"Are you okay, Becky?" My 17 year old sister, Connie asked as she stood in my doorway.
"I just miss home, that's all," I sat on my bed— my bed from the farm.
"But you are home."
"No, I mean the farm. In Nebraska."
"I know, Becky, but you'll make friends, I know so."
I looked at her. "I dunno."
"Trust me... hey, how bout you and me go get some ice cream, okay?"
I smiled a teeny bit. "Rocky Road?"
"What else is there?"
I smiled and hopped off the bed. Maybe San Francisco won't be that bad after all.

The first morning of school, I waited at the bus stop. " I don't know about this, Connie. What if nobody likes me?"
"Not like you?" My baby brother Corky asked. " what kind of person would not like you?"
"You're sweet, Corky, but I still don't know."
" well you don't have any choice because the bus is here," my other brother, Frankie said.
Gingerly, I stepped on the bus. I scanned the bus trying to find somebody friendly. I was in my sophomore year, and the new kid at Bayview High.
Being shy and uncertain, I made my way to the back of the bus. I sat down alone, and surveyed my surroundings. I nodded; you had your jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, and popular mean girls. Then you had your freaks. Unfortunately, I was looking like a freak. The bus stopped and I looked out the window, feeling sorry for myself.
" excuse me, but is this seat taken?"
