day 4-continued
"god, i hate these lessons," sarah announced as we all walked back to our cabins in a clutter.
"hey," i whispered to ryan as i pulled him to the back of the group. "i have an idea."
"hm?"
"let's get out of here."
"what do you mean? we can't just run off. we don't have money or anything. and it's not like i know every single thing about you."
"we should fix that. let's take a walk."
i grabbed his hand softly and we walked the opposite way of the group.
"you said you have a sister?" ryan asked, looking deep into my eyes.
talk about eye fucking; anal is better, though...i mean what.
"yup. her name's allison, allie for short. she ratted me out to my mom and dad and they sent me here out of shock."
"that sucks. i don't have any siblings and i don't know if i should be thankful or not."
"be thankful that you don't have a douchey one."
"i'm sure she was just scared, but i don't really think that's an excuse."
"i guess. what's your home life like, if you don't mind me asking?"
"my dad's kinda rough on me because i'm not the kid he was in high school. valedictorian, wide receiver on the football team, heterosexual. he said it doesn't matter that i'm gay, yet he sends me here and i know he hoped every single day that i would bring home a girlfriend. he just grew up in that anti-gay age where homosexuality wasn't brought up in the media."
"my mom and dad are both mormon, so you know how that goes. i think that they sent me here because...i actually have no fucking idea why."
"can i ask you a question?"
"yeah, sure," i responded.
"what's your ideal date night?"
"um, why?" i asked while intensely blushing.
"maybe plans for after the camp. you live near summerlin, right?"
"yeah, ten minutes away. do you live there?"
"no, i live in alaska. yes, dumbass, i live in summerlin."
"i live in scranton, so it's really close."
"good. i wouldn't be able to see your pretty face all the time if you lived across the state," he said with a little smile.
"shut up, but touché."
"anyways, answer my question! what's your ideal date?"
"probably just something simple. i like to go to the movies and the mall, but a candlelit dinner would give me the time of my fucking life."
"noted. well, what do you fear? i don't want to scare you off."
"i don't like heights, but rollercoasters are acceptable as long as they don't go upside down. also, don't laugh at me, but i'm still slightly scared of flying in planes."
"that's not stupid, at least you weren't scared of chalk as a kid and part of your teenage years."
"are you kidding?"
"nope. i wouldn't go near a stick of chalk for ten years because some kid stuck a piece of one up my nose and i had to get surgery to have it removed."
"what color chalk was it?"
"that's really your question right now?" ryan questioned with a chuckle.
"yes, now answer."
"it was pink."
"i'll make sure to bring pink chalk to our first date."
"yeah, sure you will."
"well, what was your ex boyfriend dan like?"
"he was funny, nice, really hot. he was a football player so the entirety of the cheerleading team were all over him, even though they either suspected or knew he was dating me. dan's football friends actually didn't care that he was dating a guy; it actually inspired a few of them to let out their own buried secrets."
"that's good. all my friends left me because they thought my gay was basically contagious. that girl named lily or whoever i said was my best friend on the first day here isn't a real person; i just didn't want to sound like some outcasted loser you wouldn't want to hang around with, let alone date."
"aw, i'm sorry, brenny," ryan said comfortingly, welcoming me into his loving arms.
"no, it's okay. i don't need them."
"what was ian like?"
"ian?"
"your summer fling boyfriend who went here."
"oh, crawford. he was amazing, but you're his clone times 10. he was in theater like you and his last show night he did in scranton was the day he told me he was leaving for good. i haven't gone to a play at that theater ever since because it reminds me so much of ian."
"i'm sure that his leaving was for the better. maybe he got out of here early and is living his best life free and gay."
"maybe. i just hope he didn't turn out to be some wannabe hetero boy."
"we can only hope."
"do you wanna go back to the cabin?" i suggested after a few seconds of silence.
"yeah."
we walked back together, but not holding hands because marilee is like a predator looking for the slightest bit of homosexual tendencies between two camp comers.
"hey, fuck buddies. what's up?" dallon declared loudly, making blood rush to both of our faces.
"we're not fuck buddies, why would you think that?"
"there's no fooling ryan's best friend, urie. i saw his emergency condom was gone and my lube was open."
"and i could hear you guys from my nap space. i didn't want to be weird and try to sleep so i just ran off with spencer and jon."
"great," ryan groaned.
"oh well, it's okay. just make sure marilee doesn't find out," jon stated.
"she won't, trust me."
we were all strongly hoping that marilee was oblivious enough to not notice the lube in the bottom of the sink being opened.
