day 7-escape day
it was unrealistic how slowly time seemed to pass after midnight. it was like we were waiting for grass to grow, a new album to be released, paint to dry, or a school bell to ring to signal the end of class. if you're wondering, yes, i did think of all these examples during said seemingly extended time.
but, finally, the time came. jack and alex knocked lightly at our cabin door as we grabbed our suitcases and rushed to answer it. the girls were already standing outside with their stuff and, in the most kind way possible, looking a bit rough. yet again, i don't blame them one bit. who knows what we looked like to them. i doubt either group had been to sleep yet; and, if they had gotten at least some rest, it wasn't for long. adrenaline was rushing through all of us.
"are you guys completely ready?" alex questioned, all of us answering with an ecstatic yet exhausted "yes."
"let's get a move on," jack said, waving his hand to motion us to get going out the door.
we lugged our stuff out of the cabin and followed the group led by the two counselors into the open area in front of us.
"so, where are we going, exactly?" lynn asked.
"a place called second home. it's this big house in the town next to ours that shelters homeless and struggling kids. it's owned by our friends zack and rian, so you guys already have a setup waiting for you because we made sure to let them know they need space for a group of amazing gays," jack told us.
"i can't believe it! we're getting out of here!" jon said enthusiastically.
"you guys are lucky that lisa encouraged me to buy a mini van. not everyone will be sitting in a seat with a seatbelt on, but y'all are gay and at least two of you are probably dating, so just sit on each other's laps or something. it happens every camp. the individuals usually go home gayer than they came," alex said, causing us to laugh a little bit.
"speaking of lisa, she works at second home and will be the one taking care of you guys for the most part. she hasn't attended the camp as a student nor ever been gay, but she's one of our best and trusted friends and has known alex for years."
"that's good," spencer replied.
"alright," alex started, opening the door to his mini van, "hop in, we're getting out of here."
******
the van was pretty cramped, but i sat on ryan's lap so i didn't care. i wish he was wearing sweatpants-i mean what.
second home was a seven minute drive, according to alex. once we arrived, lisa was already siting outside on a porch swing, taking a puff of what looked like a juul and, after a second, blowing smoke out of her mouth. she saw our car and quickly tried to get rid of the smoke by swatting at it and trying to make us thing she was swatting at a bug, but the majority of us had already seen. it's not like we cared, anyways. lynn had her vape in her suitcase, for pete's sake. but, in lisa's defense, she didn't know that.
we all ran out of the car and lisa greeted all of us sweetly.
"hey guys, welcome! rian and zack are inside waiting for you."
the entirety of us then entered the large establishment, observing every little surrounding object.
"welcome to second home."
the moment when those words were spoken was the moment i knew that everything was going to be fine.
