day 5-continued

"where did you go when you ran away?" i questioned. i hope he didn't get hurt or anything while he was away from home.

"i didn't go anywhere dangerous. it was just to spencer's house. but, my dad still freaked out and demanded that i be sent home immediately after he found out my location because mrs smith accidentally told him i was there. she knew that my dad didn't treat me the best and let me stay with them a lot when i felt scared."

"that's really nice of her. what happened, though? did you end up going home?"

"no. i stayed the night after spencer's mom convinced him it was alright and that she invited me over. my dad eventually forgot about it and, by the time i got home the next day, he wasn't even there."

"i don't mean to pry, but where was he?"

"at his girlfriend's house for dinner. i stayed at spencer's until 4 in the evening the next day. he took me over to her house once but never took me again because she was extremely religious and homophobic, double trouble, i know, and kicked her daughter to the curb just for being bisexual. he never told her, but didn't want her to break up with him over his homosexual son."

"aw, i'm sorry, ry. she obviously had some effect on your dad if he decided to send you here."

"you have no idea. i just wish he'd notice how bad she is for him so he'd stop being such an arrogant dick."

"i have a bit of experience with toxic exes. ian's ex boyfriend was insane and stalked him while we were together. he tried to severely hurt me just because he heard a rumor that ian and i were hooking up. it was the worst."

"jesus christ," ryan answered. "i'm sorry you had to go through that."

"it's fine. he was arrested for assault and god knows where he is now."

we then heard a loud and violent knock at the door. ryan impulsively got up and opened it, exposing jack and alex with overly worried expressions painted on their faces.

"where are jon and spencer?" jack asked, shaking a bit from what looked like fear.

"i have no idea," i responded. alex put his hands on his forehead.

"this is not good," jack sighed.

"what's wrong?"

"i know what they're doing if they're not here, i'm not stupid. i went to this camp myself and have had my share of forest hookups. it's really bad if spencer and jon get caught, ryan. marilee will literally kick them to the streets," alex explained. i also saw jack clear his throat after the mention of forest hookups; they're not even trying to hide it.

"let's find them, then!" i exclaimed, ryan and i rushing out the door to tag along with the two counselors.

"has anyone been kicked out before?" ryan asked with a tinge of anxiousness in his voice.

"definitely. girls and boys alike. it's usually just one person and not both, though. they don't want it to be too noticeable that someone is missing when they put the graduating class picture up."

"yeah, but sometimes they just don't even try to kick anyone out because so many things have happened with that certain class. you should've seen our class. jack was a troubled kid, i tell you, but look where he is now."

"not to offend you guys, but i can assure you that i would never work here, even if someone were to pay me a huge ass fortune."

"no offense taken, dude," jack answered me, alex nodding his head in agreement. "the only reason that i'm here is because of alex. i definitely wouldn't be here if i had to work with some dumbass christian hetero-"

"JACK!"

"oopsies."

"it's fine," ryan started, "we all kinda expected it. but, if you keep doing things the way you are now, marilee will never suspect a thing."

"i hope she won't, because then i would have to leave and basically abandon jack. who knows what kind of torture he'd go through when staying here. i don't want him to have to hurt because of me."
