day 5-continued
"aw, that's so sweet," ryan added, alex shrugging his shoulders like it was nothing.
"just please don't tell any other camp kids. it's not that i don't trust them, i just don't want marilee to accidentally overhear anything that might guide her towards suspicion," jack asked of us.
"that's easy. we won't."
"thanks, ryan. you guys are both good kids."
"nothing like we were," jack murmured, alex punching him playfully in the shoulder.
"i wouldn't say anything too fast," i whispered.
my statement not only sent jack and alex into hysterics, but also led to ryan's face turning bright red. he looked at the ground and eventually let out a small and obviously repressed laugh.
"don't worry, whatever you guys did or plan to do will not be in the center of my mind."
"thanks, alex," ryan said.
"i assure you that you do not want to know what we did," jack stated, alex's eyes widening and his expression causing him to look down.
"wait, if you guys are basically together, then why are you still dating that lisa girl?" i asked alex.
"lisa knows about the whole thing and it doesn't bother her one bit. she's actually one of my best friends. she's just for show and it doesn't offend her in any way because she knows what my mom would do if she found out about jack and i."
"i'm just letting you guys know that it wouldn't be one inch of good, so don't let her catch you guys doing anything bad or even just looking gay," jack added, alex nodding his head in agreement.
"noted. we make sure to be cautious, anyways."
"speaking of getting in trouble for doing bad things," i started, "we should keep looking for spencer and jon. we could split up, if you want. it would be faster."
"thanks for getting us back on track, the thought of finding them almost left my mind. and sure, we can split up. you guys can check back at the cabin and we'll check around the forest borders. should we meet back here in a little less than five?" alex suggested.
"yeah. let's get going, bren."
ryan and i walked in the direction of the cabins while jack and alex set off near the forest borders like they said they were going to. you probably know how much i love being alone with him, but no funny business right now. this is non-jokingly a serious situation that could possibly get spencer and jon kicked out to the streets if they're caught in the act by marilee.
"remember, no funny business, ross," i reminded him. he responded with a muffled and discreetly disappointed, "yeah, i know."
the cabins were not even close to a long walk, so we were there in under two minutes. once the little building was in eyeshot, we rushed towards it and pretty much threw the door open. there were no obvious signs of the two boys, but we decided to checked the bathroom just in case.
ryan knocked on the door and, in result, received no answer. without saying a word, we both knew what the other was thinking. we hoped that jon and spencer were found by jack and alex; or, at least, found by someone that wasn't marilee.
so, we almost sprinted back to the designated meeting spot and it seemed as if we were just in time. jack and alex were on their way to return to the area with two messily-clothed boys who we correctly assumed were jon and spencer.
jon waved once he caught sight of us and spencer smiled. jack and alex noticed that we saw them, so they led the two into our vicinity.
"hey, guys," spencer greeted us.
"you guys are fucking lucky that marilee didn't find you."
"tell me about it, urie. i guess i'll thank you bastards for looking out for us, though. it could've been a lot worse," jon said, shrugging his shoulders.
"i'm beyond glad that jack and alex didn't do anything to us," spencer commented, my eyes shifting to the side.
"they're cool, you don't have to worry about them."
"ryan's right. we've been through this camp and don't want any other kids having an experience like we did. but, it has felt like i've been in this camp my whole life; i mean, my mom owns this hell."
"let's just go chill back at the cabin, i'm tired," jon said imperatively, all of us following while jack and alex waved bye.
"you're lucky that they came over when they did because if they had found us three minutes later, it would have been round two and clothes would have been off again," jon whispered, spencer slapping him in the arm. the rest of us just laughed.
