day 6-gender roles

this morning i was not woken up by my alarm, but by the sweet sound of ryan's voice.

"hey bren, wake up."

my eyes slowly opened and i saw his face a bit of a distance from mine, but still close enough that my hand could touch it if i wanted to.

"hi."

"thought i'd get you up a bit early so you can brace yourself for today's lesson."

"what is it?" i asked with a groan.

"gender roles."

"you're kidding me, right?"

"could i make this up?"

"true. has anyone said anything about it yet?"

"no one else is up. i know jon will probably have a hissy fit when he sees."

"what did you say you got me up early this morning for?"

"i actually wanted to talk to you in the bathroom, if you don't mind. i can't get this out of my head," he explained, keeping his voice to a low volume so he wouldn't wake any of the other boys up.

"oh, okay, sure."

i got up and rubbed my eyes, ryan walking to the bathroom in front of me. i followed him in and closed the door behind me.

"what's going to happen with us after this camp is over?" he interrogated.

we both knew that this question would arise at some point; it was unavoidable. i've been dreading it since the day i got here.

"what do you want to happen after this camp? i want to make the best of what we have first and see where it takes us afterwards. we only live about 20 minutes away, so it's not like we would never see each other ever again. besides, i have your number and social media, so that means we can stay in touch if nothing ever comes up where we can go wherever."

"well, there's two things i need to say before we go on: one, i don't want you to feel as if i'm coming onto you and forcing you to do anything with me because we've only known each other for six days, so tell me when you feel like i'm giving you some unnecessary ultimatum. i promise i won't get offended at all. two, what are we?"

"do you mean relationship-wise?"

"yeah," he responded, looking down shyly at the ground.

"i'd like for you to be my boyfriend someday. it doesn't have to be today, tomorrow, or the next day, but i'd enjoy it if it ever did happen."

"same to you. and, like i said, i know we've only known each other for like six days, but i feel something when i'm with you that i don't feel with spencer or any of my other friends at home."

"i've only ever felt this way with ian, and even then it wasn't as important to me as my connection with you is. i don't want to lose you."

"awww," we heard jon say from what sounded like outside the door. we opened it and saw him with a smug expression painted on his face.

"how long have you been listening?" ryan asked.

"long enough. i have a plan."
