Thanksgiving Day
Ellie's POV
I don't want to do this. I'm not ready to tell them. But I really need to. "It's gonna be alright, Ell," Nick said to me as I paced our room. "What if they get mad?" I worried. "They won't be. They'll still love you. There was nothing you did wrong," he tried to reassure me. I sat down next to him. He put his arm around my shoulder as I leaned my head against him. "You're going to be alright, Ellie. I promise," he said softly.
About an hour later, everyone showed up. It was about noon when we ate. "Let's go around the table and say something we are all thankful for!" my dad said. Luckily, we were seated so that I was last. I was going to do it. Before I knew it, it was Nick's turn to say what he was thankful for. "I'm thankful for Ellie and for all of you for accepting me into your family. It means a lot," he said. I sighed. He held my hand under the table. "I'm thankful for everyone here. Especially Nick and the baby," I said. Nick smiled. It took everyone a moment to realize I meant my baby. "Ellie!" My mom said. "Congratulations," circled around the room. I knew Nick would be getting spoken to later. "Let's eat!" I said. Everyone laughed and began eating.
After lunch, my brothers, Nick and I all gathered in the living room. I was nervous for what was to come. They stood in front of him. "I remember this one from a few years back," Robert said. "I thought you said our sister wasn't your type," George said. "I wasn't going to willingly say anything back then," Nick replied. "So, little sis, how did this happen?" John asked as they all retreated back to the couches, Nick sitting next to me. "A few quick decisions were made and some stuff happened. Now we are here," I said. "She never makes decisions without thorough thinking. What really happened?" George asked. "Do you really want the details?" Nick asked. This was getting funny. They all shook their heads quickly. "I was doing what I wanted. Taking a risk," I said.
Nicks POV
"I bet you didn't expect this. I'm surprised by it," Robert said. I looked at Ellie. I could tell it hurt her. She stood up and stormed off. I glared at her brothers before going after her. "You better apologize soon," I said before heading up the stairs.
I opened the door to our room and found her sitting on the floor, crying. I sat next to her and put my arm around her.
Ellie's POV
I was glad Nick was there. I rested my head on his shoulder, crying. Normally, them saying something like that wouldn't hurt. But my hormones aren't normal and things hit me worse now. That was so rude of them. "Shh, it's okay," Nick said softly, comforting me. I looked up into his eyes, and he stared right back at me. "Do you want some hot chocolate or anything?" He asked. "Yeah, lets go get some," I said. Maybe that'll make me feel better. We stood up and he put his arm around my shoulders as we walked down the stairs. My brothers were outside talking about something, probably me.
"Here you go," Nick said, handing me a mug of fresh hot chocolate. "Thanks," I said. Then my mom walked in. "Oh, hey guys," she said. "Hey," I said. "So, how're you?" She asked me as she sat down in front of me and Nick. "I'm okay," I said. "Well that's good I guess. Congratulations, Ellie. I wasn't expecting that, but as long as you're happy, I'm happy," she said. I smiled. "Thanks, mom," I said. "And, Nick, I'm sure you'll take great care of the two of them," she said, turning to face him. "I'll do my best. The world is a rough place. But I'll try my best to keep them safe and happy for the rest of our lives," he said. I smiled hearing him say that. For the rest of our lives. That sounded nice. My mom smiled, too. I yawned. "I might go to bed a bit early tonight," I said. It was only seven, but I was tired. "You look tired," Nick said. "It's only gonna get worse the farther along you are," my mom said. I chuckled. "How far along are you, anyways?" She asked. "About six weeks," I said. She nodded, "Well, the symptoms are going to start soon. Be ready. These next months are not going to be easy." "I'll enjoy feeling good as long as I can," I said, standing up to put my mug in the sink, Nick following behind me. We saw that my brothers were still outside talking. "Nick, can we talk?" George said, peaking his head inside for a moment as we walked by. "Yeah, man. Just give me a few minutes," he said.
I put on comfier clothes and sat on the bed. "I'm gonna go talk to them," Nick said. "Try not to get in a fight," I said. "I won't" he replied. He walked over and kissed my forehead. "I love you," He said. "I love you too," I replied.
Nicks POV
I walked downstairs quietly and went outside to talk to Ellie's brothers. "Hey, what did you wanna talk about?" I asked. "Well, we feel really bad about what we said earlier. First we wanted to apologize to you," Robert said. "Okay," i said. "We are very sorry that we may have been rude. We understand that what we said hurt Ellie and therefor might have hurt you. We know it was an accident, getting her pregnant. She's our little sister, we are just wary about her bringing you around all of a sudden and us not knowing you very well before this," John said. "Well, I can guarantee you that I'll never leave your sister. She means a lot to me. And I'm always going to protect her and our baby. I accept your apology," i said. It was very nice of them to do that. "What should we say to Ellie?" Robert asked. "Well, tomorrow you should just say what you said to me," I said. "You think that'll work?" John asked, unconvinced. "Yes, now if you'll excuse me I should probably go check on my girlfriend," I said. "Go take good care of our little sister," George said.
I walked back inside and saw Ellie's dad in the living room, sitting on the couch. He had yet to talk to me privately. I was really nervous about what he'd say. "Nick," her dad said. "Yes, sir?" I said, stopping and looking at him. "Let's talk," he said. Oh no. "Okay," i said quietly, moving to a spot on the other couch. "So, you and Ellie?" He asked. "Me and Ellie," I repeated after him. "How long have you liked her?" He asked me. "Quite a while. Since I met her I think. But I didn't really realize how much I liked her until we did this undercover case and were supposed to be a couple. During the op, she kissed me. It really got me thinking, and I haven't felt that way before. I figured it was something special. And I was right," I explained. "Hmm. She must really like you too. Her ex-husband was never as good to her as you are. Their divorce put her in a bad place. Then she had the thing with the other guy, Qasim, and when he passed away, she wasn't the same. I'm glad she has you in her life," he said. "Yeah, I'm lucky to have her, too," i said. I really was. She helped me adjust to being a normal person rather than an undercover agent. "She always talked about you, when she'd call and visit, you know," he said. I nodded, smiling. "So, this was all an accident, huh?" He asked. "Yeah," I sighed. "Quite the surprise. I didn't expect that from Ellie," he said. "Yeah, it seems to take everyone by surprise," I said. "You should go be with her," he said. I nodded and got up. "It was nice talking to you, sir," I said. "You, too, Nick," he returned.
I opened our bedroom door and saw Ellie, under the covers, asleep. I walked into the bathroom and changed clothes before walking back in and kissing her forehead, turning off the lights and getting in bed with her. I wrapped my arms around her and sighed. I want this forever.
