A/N- omg So first, thank y'all so much for 1k+ reads on this book! Like, whoa! And also, sadly, this book is coming to an end. I may occasionally update it in the future but I'm not sure. I'll try to make these next few chapters amazing!
A week later
Ellie's POV
I have a little less than two weeks until my due date. It was the weekend and thankfully Nick didn't have work. "I can't believe she's gonna be here so soon. I'm so excited," Nick said. "Me too. I need this kid out. I love her, but its very uncomfortable," I agreed. "I think Gibbs is gonna try to keep me at the office as much as he can, but I've got a bad feeling we are gonna have a case this week," Nick said. "Well, you know I'll call you if anything happens. And if you don't pick up, I'll call Gibbs," I said. He nodded.
"Is there anything you want to do today?" Nick asked me after we ate lunch. "I don't know. I really just want to spend this time, and every time for the next couple weeks, with you. We are gonna have a baby really soon. We won't have this anymore. There won't be a 'just us' thing. It's gonna be us and our princess. I want to just enjoy it. Plus, we should talk about some stuff," i said. "Okay. That works with me. Just me and the love of my life," he said. "And you're sure you don't want to go out on a little date night?" He asked. "That's very tempting. I'll take the offer. Where should we go?" I asked. "I really like Italian. What do you think?" He asked. "I think it's a great idea," i said.
Later that day
Nicks POV
"You ready to go?" Ellie asked me as I tied my boots. I looked up. The woman I saw was something I wasn't expecting. "Wow," I said. "What?" She asked, sounding worried. "You look gorgeous, Ellie," I said. She blushed a bit. "Well, what are you waiting for? Let's go eat!" Ellie said, eager to get food to her and the baby. I grabbed my keys out of my pocket, feeling the little box as well.
When we pulled into a parking spot at the restaurant, Ellie looked confused. "I thought we were just going on a little date," she said. "We are. I just wanted to do something nice," I said. We walked into the large dining room, which had white table clothes and dim lighting. I walked up to the maitre'd and gave them my name to find our reservation. Ellie just looked surprised as we walked to the table.
"Reservations?" She asked when the maitre'd walked away. "Like I said, something nice. Something that is just the two of us. No baby to tag along in a bulky carrier. Just me and my beautiful girlfriend," I said. She smiled. Then the waitress walked over and took our drink orders. We kept talking about random things while we ate. Then I ordered a small piece of cake for desert.  I figured it would mostly be Ellie's.
Then I decided to do it.
I slipped out of my chair and knelt down on one knee. "Eleanor Bishop, I've loved you for a long time. I couldn't be happier settling down with anyone else in the world. You mean more to me than anyone I've ever met. I've known I wanted to do this since we became friends. Ellie, will you marry me?" I asked.
She hesitated a moment before doing anything. Then she let out a sigh. "Yes," She said, smiling and blushing. The few people sitting around us clapped. I pulled Ellie in for a kiss.
Ellie's POV
When Nick finished his speech, I hesitated. In that moment, all I could think about was Qasim and Jake. How both of those relationships were failures. I said yes because I was tired of regretting saying no.
Nicks POV
On the way home, I put my hand on Ellie's thigh. "I love you," I said. "I love you too, babe," she said. "We are getting married," I said softly. "I know. When can we tell people?" She asked. "Whenever you want," I replied. She smiled.
The next day
Ellie has invited our work friends over to tell them the good news. I was cooking lunch as the guests arrived.
After everyone ate, Ellie stood up. "I just want to say thank you guys for all the support through this whole pregnancy. And that Nick and I are engaged," she said, almost squealing the last part. "Congratulations!" Circled around the room. I stood up next to her. "Good job, man," Tim said. "Thanks," I replied. There were a few hugs passed around. "So when's the wedding gonna be?" Kasie asked. "We aren't really sure. Obviously it's gonna be after the baby is born. Maybe in like six months or a year or something. We're still working out the details," Ellie said. Everyone laughed.
Once everyone left, I could tell Ellie was really happy. She hated being stuck at home, unable to see our friends. But things will be different soon.
