Two days before Thanksgiving
Ellie's POV
As we boarded our plane to Oklahoma, I looked back at Nick. "I'm surprised you're willingly going to speak to my family about this," I said. I really was. "Well, they've gotta find out sooner or later," he sighed. "Yeah, you're right," I agreed. We got in our seats and the plane took off soon after.
We pulled into my parents' house and got out of the car. "Ellie!" My mom said as we walked in the door. "Hey, mom!" I said. "And you must be Nick," she said, introducing herself to Nick. "You can call me Barbara," she said. "It's very nice to meet you, ma'am," Nick said. I had to hold back my giggle. Then my dad walked over. "Hey Ellie," He said. "Hi dad!" I replied. He hugged me and then shook Nick's hand. "Pleasure to meet you, sir," Nick said. This time, I had to giggle. I led Nick up to the guest room where we'd be staying. "Good job, back there," I said with a chuckle. "Hey, first impressions mean everything," he said. We both laughed. "Would you like a tour?" I asked. "Well, of course," he said. I took him around the house and showed his everything he needed to know, then we went outside. "This is the barn," I said. "I spent a lot of time in here," I explained. "Well, its very different from the city," he said. "Yeah," I agreed. Then I took him to the fort. "This is me and my brothers' fort. We used to spend endless hours up here," I said, smiling. "This is cute," he said. I knew he was talking more about me than the actual place.
"We should probably talk to my mom before anyone else," I said as we walked back to the house.
When we got inside, we walked to the kitchen and I made us coffee. "Why, thank you," He said. I giggled. "So, when are your brothers coming?" He asked. "I'm not sure. I'll be right back," I said. I went upstairs to find my mom. "Hey, can you come to the kitchen for a minute," I said when I found her. She nodded and followed me back. "So, when are the boys coming by?" I asked. "They're coming tomorrow night for dinner then Thanksgiving Day of course," she said. I smiled and nodded. "So, what's the story here?" She asked curiously. "Uh, well, Nick is my boyfriend," I said. She nodded. "I'm getting tired," I said as I yawned. "Of course, traveling is always tiring. You should get some rest," my mom said. "Here, I'll take your cup," Nick said, staying seated to finish his glass of coffee. "Thanks," I said. I walked upstairs.
Nicks POV
"I know my daughter very well. She's not the type to bring home a guy so suddenly. What makes you different?" Barbara asked me. "I'm not completely sure, myself. We haven't actually been together that long either. But I've liked her for a while. Longer than I realized," I said. "You're very kind to her," she said. "Well, she deserves the best," I said. Ellie's mom just smiled. "You should go be with her," her mom said. I smiled and took our mugs to the sink before walking upstairs to our room. "Hey, Ellie," I said. She was just getting into bed as I walked in. I got changed into pajamas and climbed in bed with her. I wrapped my arm around her. "I'm nervous for tomorrow," she said. "It's okay if you don't want to tell them yet," I said. "No, I need to," she said. I nodded in agreement. "Goodnight," She said. "Goodnight. I love you," I replied. "I love you too," she said. I knew I'd caught her by surprise. I'd never actually told her that I loved her like that before. She sighed and turned to one side. I wrapped on arm around her and rested the other on her stomach. I thought of our future as I fell asleep.
