My head hurts. There's this throbbing on the side of my head. The lights on the ceiling are too bring and the room smells weird. When I open my eyes, I'm not in my room. Actually, I don't even know where I am.
My eyes adjust and I take in my surroundings. This is a hospital, but I don't know how I get here. Or why. Oh God, I'm tired. My eyes feel heavy and my body feels like jello. I look down at myself and I'm not in my clothes, but a hospital gown and I instantly frown.
I look to my left and see a woman that I don't know. A nurse by the name of Ingrid, she looks like she could be in her early 40s, my mom's age if she was still alive. "Hello, darling. How are you feeling?" She asks me and notice her thick accent.
Her brown eyes move to the side of my head. "You hit your head, so don't sit up," I nod slowly. I don't remember hitting my head. I don't remember anything. Why can't I remember anything?
I swallow the sudden lump in my throat and look around the room. It's just Ingrid and I. "Where's Luke?" I ask her, even through she probably has no idea who I'm even talking about. "Where's India? And Becca?"
"It's alright, sweetie. I'll tell your friends you're awake," she reassures me and places a hand on my shoulder.
She then leaves my room and I'm alone. I'm trying to think of how I got here, but even that makes my head hurt. Seconds later, the door opens and a pair of blue eyes meet mine. I notice the way his hands shake as he makes his way over to me, but then he suddenly stops. I suddenly feel bad for the way I treated him earlier.
India follows after him and I notice the way her cheeks are flushed and how her eyes look puffy. Becca is in the same condition as her.
"I got this for you," Michael tells me as he hands me a small stuffed animal. It's a giraffe.
"Thank you," I tell him and he kisses the top of my head gently.
Ashton and Calum both sit at the end of the bed and send me smiles. "Damn, no offense, Sam. You kinda look like shit," Ashton says and I laugh. Becca slaps his arm. "What?! I said no offense!"
"What happened?" I ask, particularly to no one as I try not to touch the side of my forehead. Why does it hurt so much?
India comes over to the side of the bed and sits by me. "You fainted," she says. "I was sleeping when this happened, but I heard this very loud noise and when I got up, I found you on the floor in the living room. You hit the side of your head there," she explains as she points to the side of my forehead. "The doctor said you're incredibly stressed out and also exhausted from lack of sleep."
"Jesus Christ, how many hours of sleep have you been getting, Sam?" Calum asks me, placing a hand on my leg.
I look around for a minute. "I don't know," I shrug. "I think, like, three." I look down at the stuffed animal Michael's given me and fight the urge to cry. I don't know why I'm so emotional. That's just so nice of him.
"You should be fine, there's no head trauma, but you still have to stay here for the night," Becca tells me.
When I look up, I see Luke leaning against the wall and the entire room falls silent. It's like him and I are the only ones in here. I want him to sit by me and I want him to hug me. He's probably mad at me right now and I don't exactly blame him since I was bitch earlier when he was only trying to help.
"Oh..." Michael breaks the silence. "Alright, kiddos, I think this is our queue to leave. Sam, I'm very happy you're alright." I nod at him and one by one they leave the room except Luke.
He stands there, his hands hiding behind his back. I notice the way his hair is a mess and now he still looks sleepy. I hate that he got up and came all the way here when he didn't even have to, but I can't say I'm not grateful he did. I also notice the hoodie he's wearing and can't help but think of how cuddly he looks.
