"WHAT THE FUCK?! FUCK THIS BOOK!" I shout as I finish reading The Fault in Our Stars and throw it across my room. It lands by the door and I immediately go to pick it up. I shouldn't be throwing things that aren't mine around. "FUCK YOU, JOHN GREEN," I shout again and throw the book on my bed.
From across the house, I hear more screaming. I already know it's Calum. I follow his voice and end up in his room. Calum's in the shower, singing some song he wrote a few days ago. He showed us yesterday and we all ended up loving it.
"-why did you want to go and make me feel this way? I don't understand what's-"
"Shut up, Calum! I hate that song!" I yell at him, knowing I'm lying, and kick his door. Why can't he sing something else, for fucks sake. Anything else but that song. It reminds me of Sam.
"Fuck off, Luke!" Calum shouts back and I leave his room. "I do what I want!" I hear him shout as I walk down the long hallway and into my room.
I'm angry and I don't know why. Maybe it's because of the book. Maybe it's because of Sam. Maybe it's because of her stupid ex boyfriend, whose face I'd love to pound with my fist. I grab a jacket and slip it on, then grab the book and leave the house without telling anyone.
How could Sam tell me to read this book after the way it ends? That's not fucking fair. How could she ignore me these past few days? That's not fucking fair either. And how could she kiss a guy in front of me? I'm pissed off and I'm fucking jealous and I don't give a shit.
I slip on some sunglasses as I step outside, ready for the handful of photographers that are waiting, and head to my car as fast as I can. I set the book down in the passenger seat and drive to Sam's. I don't know if she'll be home, seeing as it's eleven and she might be in class, but I'm hoping.
My anger seems to have faded when I step into the elevator and lean on the wall. I'm not alone, there's a girl, standing not too far from me.
"How badly did that book fuck you up?" She asks me and I turn to look at her. She looks about sixteen, but I could be wrong.
"Pretty bad, practically sideways," I tell her and she laughs.
"Is it yours?" She asks as she digs through her bag.
"No, it's a friends and I'm returning it," I can't believe I just referred to Sam as a friend. "Do you want a picture?" I ask her and she nods, slightly blushing.
"But hold up the book, I'm posting this on twitter," she says and holds out her phone.
I do as she says and smile when she takes the picture. I look down at her phone as she types up a caption with the picture. "Luke read tfios, everyone STAY CALM,"
I laugh at her caption and after she tells me goodbye, she steps out of the elevator, leaving me alone.
When I make it to Sam's front door, my anger returns. I need to stop being so bipolar, but then again, Sam doesn't help my situation at all. But I'm also the one who came here in the first place so no one is winning here. I don't even bother to knock and I'm not surprised that the front door isn't locked.
"Sam?" I call out angrily and look around for her. "Sam, where the hell are you?"
"Luke?" A voice calls from behind me and I spin around. It's India, still in pajamas and with a brush in her hand. She crosses her arms over chest and glares at me. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm looking for Sam," I tell her and cross my arms too. What the hell is it with these girls doing that?! Is it some sort of code?
"She's in class," she tells me. I may have not done anything to her, but she doesn't look very happy with me either. "I don't think she wants to see you, though."
