"Dude, oh my God," Luke sighs as he leans on the chair he's sitting on next to Ashton. "I did something really dumb," he says as they stare out the window in their hotel room. Well, it's his and Sam's. Ashton is just hanging out with Luke at the moment.
They're currently in Paris. Sam, Calum, and Michael wanted to go out, even if it was freezing out. Sam had never been outside of the United States, let one Paris, but Luke was jet lagged and little grumpy so Sam decided to ask Calum to go with her, which Michael then decided to join.
Sam felt like Luke had been acting different around her lately. He was too quiet when it was just the two of them, he seemed to even be nervous around her, and it kind of upset Sam. Maybe he has something going on, something he isn't quite ready to tell Sam yet, so Sam thought it was best for her to give him some space.
Sam hates it when Luke doesn't tell her things, but she also respects his privacy and understands that she doesn't need to know everything unless Luke wants her to. So that's why Sam has been giving him space, even if he hates doing so.
"What do you mean?" Ashton asks him, giving him a strange look. Ashton knows Luke is still a bit of a shithead and he still manages to piss Sam off on a daily basis. "What did you do?"
Luke sighs, going over to his suitcase and taking out a small, squared box. It's red, Sam's favorite color. He sits down next to Ashton again, handing him the box.
"Whoa, dude," Ashton gasps when he opens it. Inside, is a beautiful diamond ring and it's honestly the prettiest ring Ashton has ever seen. "Is this what I think it is?"
Luke nods as Ashton hands him back the box. "An engagement ring? Yes, it is," Luke says as he looks down at the small box in his hand.
"I don't get it though," Ashton laughs. "How is this dumb?"
Luke groans as he gets up and begins to pace back and fourth in the room, arms crossed over his chest. "Because! What if this isn't what she wants yet? What if she's not ready? What if I'm not ready? Fuck, what if we're not ready?"
Ashton gets up, grabbing his best friend by the shoulders to stop him from pacing. "Sam loves you," he begins. "In fact, she loves you so much it grosses me out," he adds and Luke glares at him. "Do you love her?"
"Of course I do, more than anything," Luke answers quickly.
"Then what's stopping you? She loves you, you love her, put a ring on it!" He says happily, hoping it will soothe some of Luke's nerves.
"You don't think we're too young for this?" Luke asks him.
Ashton laughs again. "Of course not, you're twenty-three. You're ready, Luke."
He nods, placing the box back into his suitcase and making sure it's hidden so that Sam won't see it. "I think I'm going to ask her tonight, after dinner."
"Oh, God. Let me guess, you're going to ask her when we go to the Eiffel Tower, aren't you?"
Luke rolls his eyes, looking away. "Fuck off, Ashton," he says quietly and then sits down on the bed. Just as Ashton is about to say something, the door opens and Sam comes in. Calum and Michael following close behind. They're all laughing together, probably because of something Michael did, and Luke suddenly he wishes he would have gone out with them.
Now he feels like an idiot, because they're in such a beautiful place, somewhere he and Sam could so much, yet he decided to stay in the hotel room. So Luke gets up and walks over to Sam, wrapping her arms around her waist, holding her tightly. Her hands are cold as they brush against the sides of his neck when she wraps her arms around the back of his neck.
