Chapter 31: Now thats a king

(Hiccup's pov)

When we exited the sea mist, we entered a massive cave which was merely just the entrance of the Hidden World, looking around, the water continued to pour down and the steam continued to rise up above the caldera. There were stalagmites sticking out of the water and I noticed Stormfly riffing the air, her pupils widened as she turned to a cave mouth and that was completely shrouded in darkness, causing me to wrap my arms around my wife's torso and she leaned back into me as I rested my chin on her shoulder, she sighed lightly and turned her head slightly to kiss my nose, I smiled lightly at her gentle affections. 

We then entered a chamber full of glowing blue and green crystals, and they were everywhere, surprisingly, the crystals glowed and they gave us much needed light. "Wow." Astrid said in astonishment, suddenly, Stormfly started glowing and we both laughed in surprise and shock as my wife's Nadder continued flying through caverns, caves and tunnels all while following Toothless's scent. We then noticed glowing magma colored rocks, but as we flew closer to them, I squinted my eyes to see they were... eggs. 

Light Fury eggs to be precise. So, that female Light Fury isn't the last of her kind? If Toothless were to bring all the dragons of Norway here? The Fury class dragons can produce with each other and can gain abilities from both species. 

"Hiccup look! Fireworms!" Astrid said, I looked above us and saw them in a huge pack and flew along side us, causing Astrid to chuckle lightly and reach out for some, so did I. Stormfly let out a squawk and turned left as we then entered another tunnel which was pitch black, but when we entered the next chamber? It was massive. There were clear crystals sticking out everywhere and massive mushrooms lined up along the massive stone pillars and stalagmites while water poured into them. 

"Astrid, you see that?" I said while pointing to a massive crystal in the dead center of this chamber. Astrid turned to face the crystal and noticed swarms of dragons heading down toward the ground that lied in front of the crystal and patted Stormfly's neck gently. "We need to get a closer look girl. Take us down, but lets stay out of sight, yeah? We're in uncharted territory and we won't be welcomed here." Stormfly nodded at my wife and descended down to the ground beneath our feet, once Stormfly landed, I helped Astrid down and I looked around in awe and breathed out. "It really does exist." 

Walking through the mushrooms and crystals, we found a steep cliffside that gave us a perfect view of the massive crystal in the very center of this chamber and thousands upon thousands of dragons were gathered. Before I could speak, I heard a very familiar roar, looking up, I could see Toothless and the Light Fury flying side by side and being tailed by swarms of other Light Furies. Astrid's mouth was gaped with awe at the sight of hundreds of Light Furies, I then turned back to Toothless who landed on the massive crystal and turned to the female Light Fury who was beside him. 

Toothless then extended his wings out and every dragon in the chamber let out series of roars while bobbing their heads, it was until Toothless let out an ear piercing roar that silenced the entire chamber, Astrid chuckled lightly and said in a hushed tone to me. "Now thats a king." But instead of being happy for my dragon, I was... I was not willing to let him go. Not now, not when we need him to help us defeat the Cabal. 

::My brethren! You have chosen me to lead you along side my new mate:: 

Toothless growled out as he then turned to the Light Fury and two began a quick mating dance and when they were finished? They nuzzled into each other and Toothless continued. 

::Today, we shall go to the surface and find the Dragon Master. A human that I trust with my life and one I call my brother. We shall go to him and inform him that we dragons belong here! As long as there are animals like Grimmel and those who wish to kill and hunt us down for sport? Dragons are not safe and never will be safe! Which is why, I shall shepherd every dragon in Norway and bring them here. To sanctuary::

Toothless licked the head of the female Light Fury, who closed her eyes at the affectionate gesture and nuzzled her face into his neck, my best friend then concluded his speech to the dragons of this vast nest. 

::The age of dragons living alongside mankind has drawn its dying breath! It is time for both species to live amongst themselves. The surface is the humans home! Down here? This is our home. This is how it must be. I will ensure that it does::

Toothless's words broke my heart. Because he was absolutely right. I looked away as I felt tears starting to cloud my vision. Was I so selfish about what I wanted, that... that I failed to allow my best friend to live in peace, without me? 

"Hiccup? Whats wrong?" Astrid asked worryingly as she placed a hand on my shoulder, I scoffed and shook my head as I quickly wiped away my tears before turning to my wife. "Lets go." I said, as I stormed back over to Stormfly, Astrid quickly caught up to me and placed a firm hand on my chest; stopping me dead in my tracks. "Hey, talk to me." She demanded, I shook my head and gestured back to Toothless. "You heard him. Humans and dragons time of living together has concluded! Its the end of an era." I said while pinching the bridge of my nose and sighed heavily. 

"Hiccup, you know full well that Grimmel and our enemies will stop at nothing to get all of our dragons. Toothless is right." Astrid said, turning to my wife with shock, I was about to go off on her but my face paled as I saw a Rumblehorn approach us. Astrid turned around and gasped in fear, I slowly approached the wild dragon and held my hand out, but instead, the Rumblehorn let out a roar; alarming the other dragons that there were intruders. 

"RUN!!!" 

I cried out as the Rumblehorn charged us, Astrid and I then slid down the steep slope that would lead us to the center of the crystal, I turned and dodged as dragons bore down on us with the intent of killing us, but I could hear Toothless's outraged roars hammer into my skull. 

::BACK OFF!! I'LL DEAL WITH THEM!!!::

Stormfly dove through the chaos and snatched Astrid up before she fell to her death, I gasped in fear as a Timberjack was about to hack me to pieces with its razor sharp wings, but Toothless picked me up just in time and barked out orders to the dragons within the chamber. 

::THIS IS MY HUMAN!! THE DRAGON MASTER!!!! I WILL RETURN WHEN I AM ABLE::

Toothless held on to me with bone crushing force and I groaned in pain and patted his paws. "Ow! Toothless, you're hurting me." I said, my dragon looked down on me with thin slit eyes and razor sharp teeth were bared at me. 

::You shouldn't be here! Neither of you!! You could've been killed!!::

He barked out in disbelief, his grip on my arms loosened, causing me to slip an arm free and gave me the opportunity to climb onto Toothless's back and settle on while feeling guilty about intruding this sacred place and for possibly tainting Toothless's kingship. 

Why can't anything be simple?
