The Dragon Master Part III: End of an era (A Httyd Fanfiction)

Chapter 15: Deep trouble

(Normal pov)

Hiccup jerked back to consciousness when someone dumped ice cold water on his face, gasping and spluttering in surprise. Trying to blink the droplets of icy water coating his eyelashes away, Hiccup found he couldn't see much anyway— it was dark in this dank cave space. It actually reminded him of the tunnels to his mothers old Dragon Sanctuary...

Hiccup turned his neck and hissed in pain as she could feel the where the sedative dart struck him. Faint footsteps said that whoever dumped water on him was probably gone, but now he was regaining his senses Hiccup could hear another creature breathing. Too deep to be human, at a guess.

"Hello?"

Whatever it was hissed in response, skittering footsteps saying they probably retreated. Closing his eyes, Hiccup tried to ignore the dizziness threatening to blur his vision in already limited light.

Drifting in and out of consciousness, Hiccup remembered the smell of the sea. Sand crunching beneath heavy footsteps. Low grunting voices muttering about spreading Meadowsweet. Massive hands on him, and throwing him over their ver large and broad shoulders. That was all he could find in his brain of what happened, at least until he was ripped back to the waking world by some stranger who left him in a damp smelly cave with an unidentified creature. Opening his eyes again, Hiccup waited for the world to stop spinning and tried looking at his company in the cave. Chains jangled— not around him, strangely, but then Hiccup doubted he could even crawl straight right now let alone walk— and creaked as they pulled tight, giving Hiccup a sound cue for where to look/stumble.

Trying an age old tack that had soothed many wild dragons in his time, Hiccup dropped his voice and spoke softly to the creature.

"I'm not gonna hurt you. My name is Hiccup, and I think I'm just as trapped as you are. Either that or I'm about to fed to you—"

A door— or rather, a roughly cut rectangle in the wall of their cave— was opened, flooding Hiccup's vision with bright light and it was too much. His stomach growled, heaving his minute lunch of half a bowl of mutton on to the floor.

"Look brother, the Dragon Master is imitating a mother dragon."

Hiccup laid eyes on two twins that were light skinned, one of them had long dreads that were done in a ponytail and a long dread strand was in front of one of the twins face, the other twin had short dreads, but both men were bulky in muscle and wore black and armor made out of dragon scales and the color of the armor was of the sand, they had swords strapped to their hips and what looked like hammer like maces clipped to their belts as well, but what really caught Hiccup's eye was that the brothers wore... cloaks made out of Night Fury scales.

"Who are you two?" Hiccup demanded, the twin with shorter dreads answered. "I am Chimola. And this is my brother Kjell." He said while gesturing to the other twin with longer dreads, Chimola then pointed to the dragon behind Hiccup and asked in a taunting tone. "Do you not recognize the species of dragon in this cell with you oh great Dragon Master?"

Hiccup's eyes finally ventured over to the other trapped creature in the cell with him, recognising that as easy as breathing.

"Night Fury."

He knew immediately it wasn't Toothless— for one, it was bigger than Toothless, its eyes were magma orange and the dragon had a whole tail. This dragon had side flaps that resembled a King Cobra serpent and its dorsal fins too were a magma orange and started glowing in the darkness. Then Hiccup noticed that there were ghastly scars running down the dragons body and forepaws, patches of scales missing around its body as well, revealing dark red patches of tender unprotected skin, what looked like a nasty break in the wing joint and a still-healing angry burn across the face that gave the dragon a ravaged, defeated look. Thick chains held hind legs to the wall, somehow melded almost seamlessly to the wall so the Night Fury couldn't go anywhere.
