CIGARETTE 19

"Finally!" That's the first thing I hear when I answer Elle's call. "If you called me last night four times, at one in the morning, asking if your dumb ass forgot your laptop charger here, the answer is yes, moron."

With my free hand, I rub my tired eyes. It takes me two seconds to process what Elle is yelling me about.

"Yeah, I'm sorry. I kinda freaked out when I couldn't find it." I lie in a whisper. I set up from the bed and walk out the bedroom, closing the door behind me slowly and trying to make as less noise as possible, not not wake Michael up. "When can I pick it up?"

I look around and thank God, the living room is empty. There will be no more weird looks exchanged between me and Luke. My headache is making impatient.

"I'm out right now, but I'll be back around seven. Pass by."

"What time is it now?"

"Two in the afternoon." They pause. "Oh my God, Madi! Did I wake you up?"

"Kinda." I sigh. "I spent the whole night working." I lie once again. To be honest, I lost count how many time I've lied to Elle this past year.

"I gotta go. Pass by my dorm at 7"

"Ok, sure."

"Bye. Love ya." She hangs up and I let out another sigh.

I open the door of the bedroom and pop my head inside, seeing Michael sleeping peacefully. Closing the door again, I sit down on the couch.

My phone screen shows me I have multiple texts and some missed calls from Ashton.

No, not yet. I don't want to. I can't deal with this right now. I know I can't run away from this, but right now, I just can't.

My headache is killing me.

I wear a sound beside me, making me jump on my seat. I look to my right side and see Michael, by the bedroom's door, rubbing his eyes.

"Morning." He mumbles. His voice full of sleepiness and raspy. He sits beside me and rests his head on my shoulder.

"Morning." I whisper. We stay like this. No words are thrown in the air. There's no need anyways.

It feels good. The silence and his presence shut up my demons and I don't have thoughts haunting my mind. I just enjoy it until I still can.

"Thank you."

"You don't need to thank me." We both look at one another and I can feel my eyes watering. "I'm your friend, Madi. I will always be here for you."

That's when a single tear falls down my cheek and he wipes it with his thumb. I bite my bottom lip as he shows me a smile.

"Let's eat something."

While I made us some breakfast, Michael went to grab us some coffee. That was the only thing he didn't have at home, something for us to drink.
