AN: This story is currently being edited because I was a prettttty shitty writer when I started this at 13 and I just want to save myself the embarrassment. I think I'll put a star next to the edited chapters so everyone knows what's done. Thanks for all that have been here for the whole journey, I promise I wont ruin the bits you enjoyed.

Shady Isle has always been boring. Not in the typical 'nothing to do, nothing to see' way, and more of in the 'hardly anything changes' way. When you live a life like mine, you pretty much beg and plead with the gods above for some kind of change.

If I could take back all that begging and pleading, I would. I made a terrible mistake in praying for change.

"Rea?" My head turns lazily, my best friend and part time sister, Mikoto flashes me a large smile "You're my best friend." Things were peaceful in that one moment.

And how fast a moment can change.

The shadows came upon Shady Isle faster than I could blink. They manifested everywhere at once, but didn't catch my eye until they were clawing at Mikoto's legs.

Her name falls out of my lips in a screech, hurling myself off of the grass and reaching out to grab her hands, lifting her away from the beasts. They surround us as quickly as they first appeared, yet before they can strike, they come to a halt. My eyes search for a source-- but when I see her, it's obvious.

There was a woman, or what seemed to be a woman, standing behind us. Her gray hand was up, halting the odd creatures from their attack. She lowers her hand and the creatures disperse. I look up at the woman, her black robes flowing devilishly around her. She offers a dark smile.

"You won't get very far trying to save her with no power on your side," Her voice was almost like venom as they poured from her wine colored lips. I glanced to my sister at my side, her just as cautious about the oddly dressed stranger as I was.

"It seems you're the one saving people." I remark. She releases a small chuckle, and with her dark smile still on her lips, she stares me down.

"How would you like to protect your friend and yourself from any danger?" I raise an eyebrow, not exactly sure how I like making deals with strangers. She smirks in response, her fingernails tapping against her large scepter. "There is one weapon heartless fear... and if you were in control of one, they wouldn't dare come near you."

"Heartless, is that what those shadowy things are?" I had heard the word in my lifetime, but usually as an insult towards me and not as a noun.

"However," She interjects before I can speak again. "If I give you said weapon, I need you to do something for me in return." I stare at the sand for a moment, my silver bangs covering my eyes as I ponder. It would protect Mikoto and I... why not?

Well for starters, she was a complete stranger, that's why not. But the sounds of screams echoing through the air around me has me worried. Whatever massacre was occurring around me, I'd need all the help I could get.

"What are the terms?" She smirks and taps her scepter against the sand, the green orb at the top glowing brightly. I watch as the sand raises up into the air and transforms into a large weapon. Mikoto stares in disbelief. "A key?" I mumble, unsure how such a thing could help.

The sand bursts away to reveal a large black key wrapped in green thorned ivy. I went to reach for it, but the stranger lets out a warning call.

"Ah ah ah! You need to agree to the terms." My hand falls as she speaks again. " I will give you this weapon, this keyblade, and promise you the safety of your friend, IF and only if you agree to me a favor in return."
