Chapter 16

-Time Skip-

(To Hinata's birthday)

I woke up sore, yesterday's training was annoying since it was with Gai, he may have been taking it easy on me but it was still a brutal training process. I sighed as I got up and dressed, I was able to get out of training by forcing my dad to go with me so I could say that my dad wanted to get the party.

Yeah, it was a half-assed lie but I didn't really care enough because I was going whether they liked it or not and I would drag my dad down with me, not the healthiest mindset to have but it'll do.

I rolled out of Naruto's arms and onto the floor, "Shika?" he questioned. I turned towards him and scratched the back of my head, "Can I please come with? I promise I'll be good, you know." at first I wasn't going to bring him, I didn't want to have Hinata know him sooner and them becoming friends because that leads to her liking him faster and her having an even bigger chance of being with Naruto than him being with me.

It's not like you'll be here for much longer, and if you were in a relationship with Naruto then it would hurt him once-

Shut up...

You know I'm right if you love him you won't let him be with you because once we go through with the plan it'll only hurt him.

I sighed as I looked at Naruto, the only way for him not to be hurt by this as much was to stop interacting with him and protect him from afar. What I'm doing now will only get him attached to me and hurt him once I leave.

Being with Hinata and getting him more friends for him to surround himself with and slowly push him away will be the best way to not hurt him, "Fine Naruto you can come with me, but can you try to make other friends, Hinata-chan is nice but she's just a little shy." he nodded with a big smile, "Okay, get ready then."

It wasn't that long till we were both dressed, I was wearing a turtleneck and had my hair in a low ponytail that stuck out at the bottom of my head, it didn't look that bad but I preferred my other hairstyle.

When left the house Naruto was bouncing around and he kept looking back at my neck, I knew he saw the mark probably when I was asleep or the times we would take baths, I'm glad he hasn't mentioned it though. My father followed right behind us as we made our way to the Hyuga compound and once the compound came into view I saw Hinata who's face lit up in a smile as she ran towards me and pulled me in a hug.

"Shikamaru, who's that?" Naruto spoke behind me, Hinata blushed and let go of me, "This is Hinata." He smiled and pretty much picked her up in a hug, "Happy birthday, believe it!" Hinata blushed, she looked at me confused, "He's uh... he's a very friendly person." I said smiling. Naruto dropped Hinata and turned towards me, "What is that supposed to mean, you know?!" he yelled pointing.

Hinata giggled from behind Naruto who went quiet, "She's adorable, believe it!" thing about Naruto is that he's very open about his feelings and loves to compliment everyone, he doesn't really get what he's saying so when Hinata blushed and fainted he didn't get it but my dad was smirking as I facepalmed, and now the spiral of Hinata's cringe-worthy crush on Naruto begins.

Oh, shush you're just jealous that now he can be with her instead of you.

God, it's annoying how she just loves making me miserable sometimes, I guess she is a demon, after all, never really acts like it though. Hinata woke up after a couple of seconds and we all headed into the compound, Hinata leads us to her house where her father stood outside waiting... I never did like him.
