The Test

Mei

I woke up screaming, the nightmare I had running fresh through my head, tears rolling down my face and I turned to look at Yuzu whom I had woken up with my shriek. "Mei?! What's wrong?! Are you okay? Is it your chest?"

'What the hell was that?' I heard her asking, and before I could answer she asked again. "Mei? What happened?"

I took a breath to calm my ragged breathing, "Yuzu... you've asked me that twice in the past 10 seconds. It was just a nightmare." Her face screwed up in confusion. 'She did ask twice... didn't she?' She still looked confused. Suddenly a thought hit me, I looked right at her and focused, 'Yuzu, you did ask twice.. right?' I thought. "No, I only asked you what happened once." I was surprised, she answered my question but I didn't verbally ask her anything. I tried again, 'Well... did you think the question before saying it?'

Yuzu looked like she was deep in thought, "well yeah, I kinda questioned myself what happened but I only said it once, I swear!" Turning her face away she looked upset.

'Interesting.' I thought to myself. She looked at me again, "Mei why is that interesting?"

Yuzu

I woke up to Mei screaming, "Mei?! What's wrong?! Are you okay? Is it your chest?" She was breathing heavily, 'what the hell was that?' I was confused, "Mei? What happened?"

I heard her take a deep breath, then her breathing calmed down."Yuzu... you've asked me that twice in the past 10 seconds. It was just a nightmare." My face screwed up in confusion, I didn't ask her twice. 'Yuzu, you did ask twice.. right?' It was dark in the room so I couldn't really see her lips moving, "No, I only asked you what happened once." Mei was acting weird, 'Well... did you think the question before saying it?' I heard her question.

I thought about it and realized I did, "well yeah, I kinda questioned myself what happened but I only said it once, I swear!" She didn't believe me! I turned away upset, I just wanted her to believe me.

'Interesting.' She said, I turned back towards her and asked, "Mei why is that interesting?" Then our door opened and the lights came on, "WHATS WRONG WHAT HAPPENED?!" My mother came bursting through the door followed by Shō, Mei's dad. He yawned and said sleepily, "we heard a scream, is something wrong?"

I shook my head, "No mama, it's okay, I just heard Mei scream and thought she still had her chest pain, but it was apparently just a nightmare." Mei nodded, "yes I'm fine it's just," her sentence stopped. "Just What Mei?" I inquired,she took a breath before she continued, 'we all need to talk... there's something going on.. something strange. I can't explain why.' Our patents were standing at the door watching us. "Okay Mei, what's happening that's strange?"

My mother looked at me, "Yuzu what are you talking about... Mei didn't say anything." I glanced at my mother, "what are you talking about yes she did." I looked towards Mei, 'Yuzu, we all need to talk.. now.' My mouth gaped open, I heard her voice but nothin came out of her mouth, "Wh-What is this?"

Mei finally spoke, out loud, "It seems as though Yuzu and I can communicate through hearing each others thoughts.."

Our parents looked at each other, she spoke first, "I think we better have a conversation and figure this out.. to the living room shall we?" He turned and left, then my mom spoke, "Ill go make tea," she turned to leave but stopped and swivelled her head around, "and Mei I think it might help us to figure this out if we hear about your nightmare." She left us, I turned to look at her and she grabbed my hand standing up, "Come Yuzu, let's figure this out."

I just nodded as I stood up and was pulled along to the living room by Mei.

'What the hell is going on?' I thought to myself, 'I don't know, but I want too.' I heard in response from Mei, I knew it was her thoughts which kinda freaked me out. I tried not to think too much as we sat down with Shō. This whole thing freaked me out.
